- Democrats in Olympia have resurrecting an old, widely discredited policy to address Washington’s housing crisis: rent control (HB 1217). In the long run, this so-called solution has made housing more expensive wherever it’s been tried, and is rejected by economists across the political spectrum.
The reason housing is expensive in Washington is because we have the fewest units per family in the nation. Under the Democrats’ failed leadership, our state has made it difficult and costly to build homes. The state can’t legislate away the law of supply and demand. If we want housing to be more affordable, we need to build more homes.

❌HB 1938 would remove George Washington from the state flag.
✅HB 1285, sponsored by Rep. Skyler Rude, would make financial education instruction a graduation requirement for Washington high school students.
✅HB 1121, sponsored by Rep. April Connors, and ✅HB 1414, sponsored by Rep. Stephanie McClintock, would give young people more opportunities to enter the workforce and gain valuable skills.
✅HB 1022, sponsored by Rep. April Connors, would provide down payment and closing cost assistance to workers in high-demand fields, like nurses, police officers, and firefighters, as well as to our active-duty military members and veterans.

- Democrats in Olympia are resurrecting an old, widely discredited policy to address Washington’s housing crisis: rent control (HB 1217). In the long run, this so-called solution has made housing more expensive wherever it’s been tried, and is rejected by economists across the political spectrum.
The reason housing is expensive in Washington is because we have the fewest units per family in the nation. Under the Democrats’ failed leadership, our state has made it difficult and costly to build homes. The state can’t legislate away the law of supply and demand. If we want housing to be more affordable, we need to build more homes.
