A week from Friday the world's gaze will fall upon London, where 15,000 performers will be dancing and singing slightly out of time in a bizarre, multi-million-dollar pantomime that will commence Britain's hosting of the Olympics.
It will rain, traffic will grind to a halt, and there will be huge lines staffed by soldiers who are more used to searching for IEDs than rummaging through purses and bookbags. But everyone will grin and bear it, newspapers will effuse about the "old, wartime spirit of the East End" and the Olympics will be grudgingly declared a success.

- The Eagle NYC is the last great outpost of New York's gay leather scene. Once the hardest, burliest, most cruisinest members of the gay community here and everywhere, Leathermen's ranks were hit especially hard by AIDS in the 80s and 90s. Where the side streets of the West Village and Chelsea once swarmed with glistening, hairy chests and bulging jeans, like some neverending Tom of Finland mural, these days the scene is but a faded denim shadow of its former self.
Since finding a solid clutch of Leathermen in New York nowadays is harder than getting a leprechaun to make eye contact with you at the Central Park Ramble, we went into the Eagle, basically the Leatherman's Alamo, to meet the surviving members of this once-mighty subculture and learn the tricks of their rough trade. Please be mindful of the hanky code while watching this video, and, of course, no khakis, sneakers, or fragrances.

We went to West Virginia to investigate mountain-top removal -- which a way of extracting coal from deposits under mountains. Instead of drilling into the mountain and sending men underground to take out the coal in the traditional way, they just take the whole top of a mountain off.

Israeli settlers justify their expansion into the West Bank by digging up ancient artifacts that supposedly prove that they've occupied that patch of land for longer than the Palestinians. The twist is that the settlers have the Palestinians do the actual digging under the "supervision" of the Israeli army. Simon stumbles upon one of these infamous archaeological digs and finds that the Israelis are less than eager for their operation to be caught on camera.

Israeli settlers have been slowly nibbling away at Palestine's West Bank territory for four decades. 300,000 setllers now occupy outposts that range in size from plywood shacks to full-blown suburban housing complexes. Their abundance has grounded the much-ballyhooed two-state solution to a halt. VICE correspondent Simon Ostrovsky travels from Tel Aviv to the remote West Bank outposts where young Israelis squat for the sake of their heritage. But first, Simon pops in for some quick counter-terrorism training with a member of Israel's Special Forces, just in case.

- Cannibalism may seem like an outdated notion, but Vice met up with a real-life cannibal. Issei Sagawa murdered an innocent woman and spent three days eating her flesh. Due to loopholes in the law, Issei is a free man to this day.
On the afternoon of June 13, 1981, a Japanese man named Issei Sagawa walked to the Bois de Boulogne, a park on the outskirts of Paris, carrying two suitcases. The contents of those suitcases, to the lament of a nearby jogger, was the dismembered body of a fellow student -- a Dutch woman named Renée Hartevelt, whom Sagawa had shot three days prior and had spent the days since eating various parts of her body.
He was soon arrested. According to reports, Issei uttered, "I killed her to eat her flesh," when they raided his home, whereupon they found bits of Renne still in his fridge.

- The Pizza Connection was an actual FBI case that made the careers of Giuliani and others in both US and Italian law enforcement. The case involved a group of hardcore killers/drug dealers from Sicily who had cornered the world's heroin supply and were now planning to use pizza parlors in NYC and the rest of the US to distribute their product. For every four boxes of mozzarella, one was the babanya, the term they used for the uncut dope. The Sicilians were referred to as Zips, and were about as far from Gucci-wearing non-Italian-speaking American hoods as possible. As one of these characters, whose nickname was "The Strangler of Christians," once said about the American mob, "their problem is they don't understand about massacres, it takes them two weeks of discussion to kill one guy."
