- For nearly two decades, a federal judge has been hearing arguments in a lawsuit by thousands of families of 9/11 victims and survivors of the attacks who say that Saudi Arabian government officials helped the 19 Islamist jihadists from Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaida terror network who carried out the attacks.
After years of victims families and more pushing every U.S. president from George W. Bush to Donald Trump, a series of previously secret FBI reports have been released that point to a dozen or so Saudi government officials who provided logistical and financial help to the hijackers.
Why the Saudis might be involved is still a mystery. The kingdom has long been considered a U.S. ally but the Saudi government’s lawyers have also argued that the case be dismissed. However, in a dramatic ruling last August, a federal judge ruled that the case could go on. So now, lawyers on both sides are continuing to assemble evidence.

- President Donald Trump says he'll spend as much as $500 million to help Republican candidates win midterm election races in 2026.
"We’re going to spend a lot of money because we don’t want to lose our country," Trump said in the Oval Office on Friday, Sept. 4, just 60 days before voters will decide which party should control Congress.
He will spend the money through MAGA Inc., which can spend unlimited amounts in elections. The account had $403 million in the bank at the end of July, according to the latest disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission.

- President Donald Trump was asked about whether the Iran war was in fact a war or military conflict, more than six months after the US attacked the nation.
Trump suggested the labeled was insignificant after claiming the US strikes crippled Iran's nuclear weapon capabilities, while also framing those attacks as occurring on an "intermittent" basis.
"What we've done is amazing. We took over Venezuela and we have essentially taken over Iran," Trump claimed. "Now there's been no shooting for days before the hit that we gave them the other night."

Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial on Sept. 4 after a jury of nine women and three men deliberated for more than 38 hours and failed to return a verdict.
It came after the jury told Sullivan several times they were deadlocked during deliberations. He urged them to continue trying, even invoking special instructions known as the Tuey-Rodriguez charge intended to break the impasse.
