- KUALA MUDA KEDAH, Malaysia, 1 September 2006 I was watching TV when my neighbour came to my house to tell me to look at this long white line in the sea. When I saw the giant waves in the distance I thought to myself, how beautiful! I had never seen anything like it before. But as I stood watching the wave, I saw boats capsizing in the distance. I had no idea what was happening until a fisherman shouted at me to run, because the wave was coming towards us, recalled 13-year old Siti of her terrifying brush with death.

- Description
- KUALA LUMPUR, 9 October 2006 For many youths around the world, being a teenager is one of the most challenging times of their lives. So, when faced with difficult situations like peer pressure, discrimination, substance abuse or violence, it is especially important to have trusted mentors to turn to for guidance.
First year psychology student, nineteen year old Azra Tasneem Bt. Vazeer Alam considers herself fortunate to have loving parents who serve as pillars of strength in her times of need. When faced with bullying and name calling during her early teenage years, Azra feels she owes her resilience to her relationship with her mother and father.
When people called me names in school, it was a very painful experience for me. But the strong bond I have with my parents uplifted me and helped me through it. It is very important that young people have positive role models and mentors, to succeed in life.

- SUNGEI PETANI, KEDAH, 1 April 2008 - The story of the late Sami and his wife Ama (not their real names) is one that is becoming increasingly common in their low-cost housing community and surrounding neighborhoods in the northern Malaysian state of Kedah.
First came drug addiction, then HIV, a double burden that Sami and his family have borne for more than 13 years. Samis infection was devastating for his wife, who was already caring for their three children, including one with mental disabilities. After years of counselling and support, she has managed to come to uneasy terms with the illness.
We women have to take care of our husbands, and ourselves, she says. We must also be aware and make sure our husbands dont go out and start taking drugs, because thats where it all starts.
