- Turkey’s pro-Kurdish opposition has announced a partial boycott of parliament, after the controversial detentions of it co-leaders and other lawmakers.
The Peoples’ Democratic Party, or HDP, says its deputies will stop taking part in sessions of the legislature or meetings of parliamentary commissions.
“After discussions with our parliamentary group and our central executive board, we have decided to halt our legislative efforts in light of the most comprehensive and murkiest attack in our democratic history – and meet our people once again,” said Ayhan Bilgen, an HDP spokesman.
The HDP’s co-leaders have been jailed pending trial as part of a terrorism investigation. Ten other party lawmakers were also detained, but some were later released.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Sunday that the HDP had been funding terrorism and that anyone harming the nation would pay the price.

The explosion in the Mansoura district is one of the deadliest claimed by the militant group in the city.
Many of the recruits who were killed and wounded were from the Popular Committees – forces allied to President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Cizre is in the southeastern city of Sirnak which borders both Iraq and Syria.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but Turkey’s state run Anadolu Agency blamed the attack on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), according to the Reuters news agency.
The majority Kurdish southeast has been rocked by violence since a ceasefire between the Turkish government and the PKK collapsed last year.
The PKK has been waging a insurgency against the Turkish state to push for autonomy in the southeast of the country.
Friday’s (August 26) blast comes two days after US-backed Turkish special forces launched an incursion into Syria.

- One of the longest stand-offs in Syria’s five year conflict is coming to an end.
On Friday, vehicles lined up at the entrance of the besieged town of Daraya, just outside Damascus, ready to evacuate some 5,000 residents and rebels.
It follows a deal with the Syrian army which has surrounded Daraya and blocked food deliveries since 2012, regularly bombing the area just 7 kilometres from President Assad’s seat of power.

- Turkey’s Justice Minister has said 16,000 people have been detained following last month’s failed coup attempt.
Bekir Bozdag also said another 6,000 people were still being processed.
The crackdown has seen tens of thousands of public sector workers removed or suspended from office.
In an interview with Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency on Tuesday the Justice Minister Bozdag also warned Washington it would be effectively sacrificing its relations with Turkey if it refused to extradite US-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen.
Ankara has accused Gulen and his followers of being behind the botched uprising.

On Saturday, insurgents broke a month-long government siege of eastern parts of the city. They then pushed forward, cutting off government-held territory in the west.
The move was claimed as miraculous by Anas al-Abdah, president of the Syrian National Coalition.
“What has been achieved is almost a miracle, because our fighters are not only facing the Syrian regime but they are also facing the militias, Hezbollah, Iranian militias and Russia… If the international community is ready for political transition we are more than ready to do that. But this readiness, this seriousness, has to be shown in terms of actions, not only in terms of words,” he said.
Both sides have everything to fight for. If the government can regain full control of Aleppo it will hold all of Syria’s major cities.
