“The market’s indifference apparently stems from its belief that the coalition that will be formed will be more stable than its predecessor,” said one analyst.
Stocks rose 1.18 percent while the shekel edged higher to 4.0278 against the dollar from Monday’s close of 4.0167.
It’s expected former Likud member Moshe Kahlon will be handed the finance portfolio. It’s believed he will enhance the implementation of reforms to lower the cost of living, supporting continued moderate inflation.
As communications minister he boosted mobile phone competition and brought prices down sharply. He has vowed to do the same for banking.

Just two weeks ago Senators had been deeply divided over Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, when he attacked attempts to strike a deal with Iran over its nuclear programme.

“Our people never break a promise,” said Ayman Odeh, the Head of the Joint List. “We had an increase in the percentage of votes more than any time in the last 15 years. This is a big achievement for our people. We are the surprise of these elections. We will be the third power in the parliament. - Turkey’s inaugurated a 10-billion euro project to pump Azeri gas to western Europe.
The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) aims to carry 16 billion cubic metres of gas a year by mid-2018.
The 1,850 km pipeline will stretch from Turkey’s border with Georgia to Greece. Political analysts say it is key to Turkey’s ambition to cut its own dependence on Russian gas.
Facing objections from the EU, Russia abandoned its 40-billion euro South Stream project through which it aimed to deliver gas to Europe while bypassing Ukraine.
Our correspondent Bora Bayraktar says now Turkey plans to establish itself as the energy distribution hub of the region. “This project will not only meet Turkey’s needs, it will also provide an alternative energy route for Europe.”

Benjamin Netanyahu called on supporters to help him secure a fourth term in office, at a rally in Tel Aviv on Sunday.
“Our rivals are investing a huge effort to harm me and the Likud, to open a gap between my party, the Likud, and (our rivals), and if we don’t close this gap, there is a real danger that a left-wing government will rise to power,” Netanyahu said.
He’s counting on having a better chance of forming a coalition than his centre-left rivals.
Several final opinion polls suggested his Likud party would win fewer seats than the Zionist Union, whose co-leader Isaac Herzog took his campaign to Jerusalem’s Western Wall on Sunday.

- Thousands gathered in Istanbul on Monday to say a final farewell to Yasar Kemal, one of Turkey’s best-known writers.
The works of the 91-year-old novelist who died on Saturday celebrated the lives of the downtrodden.
But Turkey’s great and good were among those paying their last respects, including ex-President Abdullah Gul.
An ethnic Kurd, Kamal’s writings were translated into 40 languages.
“We have very few internationally well-known figures unfortunately,” said Can Dündar, Editor in Chief of Turkey’s Cumhuriyet newsaper.
“We have lost the most important of them. But we are happy to have lived at the same time and in the same land as him. We are proud of that fact.”

- Yasar Kemal, one of Turkey’s best-known writers, has died at the age of 92. He passed away in hospital in Istanbul following respiratory and organ failure.
Kemal’s most celebrated work was the book ‘Memed, My Hawk’, published in 1955, a tale of a bandit hero who takes revenge on a cruel overlord.
His works often chronicled the lives of the downtrodden, and have been translated in to 40 languages. He was the country’s first writer to be nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Kemal was an ethnic Kurd. He was born in southeastern Turkey just weeks before the modern republic was founded after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

He had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from pneumonia.
Abdullah came to the throne in 2005 and is thought to have been around 90-years-old.
His brother Salman will succeed him, according to a royal court statement carried by state television.
In a statement, Obama said: “As a leader, he was always candid and had the courage of his convictions.
“One of those convictions was his steadfast and passionate belief in the importance of the US-Saudi relationship, as a force for stability and security in the Middle East and beyond.”
The future of those relations are now at stake as Salman takes up his appointment.
He becomes King at a time of unprecedented turmoil in the Middle East region and his role in politics will be closely watched.

- Italy’s government has announced the release of two young aid workers taken hostage in northern Syria last summer.
In a video released two weeks ago, it was claimed that Greta Ramelli, 20, and Vanessa Marzullo, 21, were being held by the al-Nusra Front, al Qaeda’s branch in Syria.
The video published on YouTube showed the two women sitting and dressed in black robes and veils. One held a sign giving the date as Dec. 17, 2014.
The women said they could be killed and that the Italian government was responsible for their lives.
In August, the foreign ministry in Rome announced the pair had been seized while working on a humanitarian project in Aleppo province.
No details about their release were provided but there is speculation that a ransom of more than 12 million euros may have been paid.
