- Speaking at the opening ceremony for the Beyond the Blueprint Trade Show on Friday, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Satyakama Maharaj, urged developers to consider local products and services from the earliest stages of project design, warning that many opportunities for local manufacturers and suppliers are eliminated, even before procurement begins.
"To our local developers and clients, I make a particular appeal. Consider local capability while the project is still being designed, while it's still in the design stage. See, I didn't want to put that here, but I'll make sure I say it. By the time procurement begins, some opportunities may already have been designed out. A specification may favour an overseas product where a suitable local option could be considered."

To Trinidad and Tobago, the region and the world, he was known as Brother Valentino. To the calypso fraternity, he was The People’s Calypsonian. But to his family, he was Anthony Emrold Phillip, a beloved father, grandfather, son and more.
His daughter, Janelle Emrold Phillip, recalled the humble beginnings of the man whose voice would become synonymous with socially conscious calypso.
“He went to audition at Kitchener’s Tent on Richmond Street with no name at all. The whole tent laughed. Then the Grandmaster said, ‘Your name is Valentino’. He poured a glass of rum, called Carmen Jones over his h...
