- Alongside his work on-screen, Academy Award-winner Matt Damon has committed the last 20 years to improving people’s access to clean, safe drinking water and sanitation through Water.org, which he co-founded alongside sanitation expert Gary White.
Speaking at the TIME100 Davos Dinner, Damon noted that roughly 2 billion people globally lack access to safe water, with 3.4 billion lacking access to adequate sanitation. “It’s a massive problem,” said Damon, who through his foundation has set up a loan program for financing water and sanitation projects with the WaterCredit Initiative.
In total, Water.org has reached 85 million people with its impact, providing loans to 15 million. “The beautiful thing is, this depends on the heroic efforts of these women,” said Damon, who explained that 90% of loans are given to women.

- An actress and a businesswoman, Nomzamo Mbatha is also a staunch human rights activist. Since 2019, the South African has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and she has met with refugees and internally displaced people through her role.
Mbatha told attendees at the TIME100 Davos Dinner that, through her own non-profit organization, the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation, she has been able to fund 10 South African students to attend top universities in the country to study STEM programs.
There are tens of millions displaced globally, but Mbatha reminded: “The numbers have names, and the numbers have faces. If we change that narrative, we begin to shift the paradigm. … I hope that as we go through the concrete jungle of Davos this week, that we remember that every single number, every single statistic, translates to a person,” she said.

- Ben Lamm, a 2025 TIME100 Next honoree, is the CEO and co-founder of Colossal Biosciences, a company that seeks to restore extinct species. And recently, even drawings of wooly mammoths have found their way to Lamm.
“The thing that inspired us most was not what we were doing, but two years ago, we started getting letters. We started getting pictures of mammoths and not-so-well-drawn dodos from kids,” he said at the TIME100 Davos Dinner.
The flurry of drawings and pictures from not only children but parents and teachers too encouraged Lamm and his colleagues to develop an entirely new team dedicated to the young people inspired by Colossal Biosciences’ work.
“We changed our core values as a company where a third of our business now is really focused on the next generation,” said Lamm. “I think that kids are the most important asset that we would ever have.”

On Dec. 22, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the company’s oral version of Wegovy, making it the first pill of the popular GLP-1 medications to get the green light for weight loss. People who want to lose weight and are prescribed Wegovy now have the option of taking the tablet daily, versus injecting themselves with the drug once a week. They’ll lose about the same amount of weight with either version: between 16% and 17% of their starting body weight.
