Project Cedar aims to contribute to a broad and transparent public dialogue about CBDC from a technical perspective. Project Cedar is not intended to advance any specific policy outcome, nor is it intended to signal that the Federal Reserve will make any imminent decisions about the appropriateness of issuing a retail or wholesale CBDC, nor how one would necessarily be designed.

Can we solve social problems with markets? If not, how do we marry market solutions with public policy and philanthropy in the most effective ways?
Does the philanthropic model have an internal contradiction that stymies progress if it uses only 5% of its assets to advance its mission?
How do we frame the big challenges facing communities—such as widening wealth inequality, affordable housing scarcity, and the decline of community services such as schools, health care, clean water, and internet access—so that they are not too overwhelming for foundations and other investors to hope to improve?

- Supply chain operations have become a major challenge since the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Factory shutdowns, mobility restrictions, and widespread lockdowns have disrupted logistics networks, raised shipping costs, and extended delivery times for everyone in the global economy.
Assessing the intensity of these issues has posed its own challenge, as conventional measures tend to focus on specific dimensions of the global supply chain, rather than as one, interconnected whole.
That’s where the New York Fed’s Global Supply Chain Pressure Index, or GSCPI, comes in.
Unlike other approaches that examine the global supply chain, the GSCPI draws on key information from over two dozen commonly used metrics, to calculate one headline number. This includes the Baltic Dry Index, the Harpex container ship rate index, the BLS In- and Outbound price indices, and PMI data on delivery times, backlogs, and purchased stocks.
