- Following a sharp rally in Indian stocks, the total assets under management of state-owned insurance giant LIC have crossed the Rs 50 lakh crore mark, nearly doubling the size of Pakistan's GDP. According to the latest data, Life Insurance Corporation of India's AUM has advanced by 16.48% YoY to Rs 51,21,887 crore, which translates to $616 billion as of March-end. The same was Rs 43,97,205 crore at the end of FY23. According to the IMF, Pakistan's GDP is only about $338.24 billion. At $616 billion, LIC's mountain of money is now nearly double that of Pakistan's economy. The size of the PSU's insurance fund is also bigger than the combined GDPs of 3 neighbours - Pakistan at $338 billion, Nepal at around $44 billion, and Sri Lanka at $75 billion.
