In Nigeria, and by extension Africa, many young adults face a unique financial pressure – the black tax — an expectation that those who achieve financial freedom will support extended family members.
This support can range from covering basic needs to funding education, healthcare and even social events.
Typically, black taxing stems from a strong sense of family or communal obligation. But it can, however, become a burden.
Tune in for an interesting listen, and let us know in the comment section what your experiences with black is, and how an average youth can navigate this societal norm.

- Description
- Since the arrest and prosecution of Bobrisky, the self-acclaimed crossdresser, who is currently serving a six-month jail time at the Kirikiri correctional facility for spraying the naira, the currency, we can say, has got some relief.
Nigerians have been spraying money at parties for years uncountable, that it has become a culture, a show of affluence and probably the highlight of a party.
However, the authorities have now said enough is enough! Apparently, spraying the naira, and other new trends — naira bouquet and naira cakes — are against the constitution.
In this episode, the hosts discuss what constitutes naira abuse, alternatives to spraying money at events and ways the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) can sensitise Nigerians on caring for and valuing the naira.
Do you think Nigerians will ever stop spraying the naira? Would a Nigerian party retain its vibe if there are no notes flying on the dance floor?
