Their daughter, Marceline Udry-Dumoulin, says she had never given up on finding her parents, even climbing the glacier three times to look for them. She was planning to go back there in August to mark the 75th year of their disappearance.
In mid July, a man operating a ski piste machine discovered body parts buried in the ice, along with backpacks, tin bowls and a glass bottle, as well as male and female shoes. Identification was carried out by cross-matching their DNA with that of relatives.

In Davos, a pianist recently performed in a glass enclosure which only one person could enter at a time to enjoy the music. Others could watch – but not hear – from outside. Perhaps the world’s smallest concert hall, this mini venue was a symbolic act against an ongoing trend where cities from London to Geneva to Hamburg are competing to build the newest and best concert hall.
The so-called “One musician – one guest – one premiere” event was part of the 32nd edition of the Young Artists in Concert Festival, where 80 of the most promising musicians from all over the world are invited to the eastern Swiss town for two weeks to perform and network.

- Description
- 17 years ago, Bruno Manser, a Swiss campaigner for the rights of the Penan nomads of Sarawak, Malaysia, disappeared without a trace. A new film tells his story. (SRF/swissinfo.ch)
He had lived with the nomads for six years before fleeing the country with a bounty on his head. He spent the 1990s advocating on behalf of the Penan through his organisation, the Bruno Manser Fund, by giving lectures, writing books and by appearing in films and on television.
A new documentary film “The Borneo Case” shows how his struggle is being continued by his friends and allies. The story, filmed over 25 years, documents the destruction of more than 90% of Sarawak’s forests and investigates where the profits from the destruction went. It begins with Bruno Manser's disappearance in the jungles of Borneo in May 2000. Manser was officially declared dead in Switzerland in 2005.

- Runtime

- Description
- Every year, 4,000-6,000 Swiss sheep die after falling down mountains, becoming ill or being struck by lightning. In comparison, the number of sheep killed by wolves is small. Still, many are calling for canton Valais in south-western Switzerland to be a predator-free zone.
Raised for meat, milk and wool, Swiss sheep numbered about 340,000 in 2016. Of these, 389 were killed by wolves. The Swiss wolf population is estimated at 30-35 individuals.
Now a local initiative wants to eliminate species like wolf, bear and lynx – animals that are protected under the Bern Convention. We ask locals whether there’s room for the wolf in their backyards. (SRF/swissinfo.ch)

- Description
- A group of architects, robotics researchers, material scientists and digital fabrication specialists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zurich are putting several new digital building technologies into practice.
For the first time, a house is being built, from planning to construction, entirely using digital techniques. The aim is to make future construction technologies more sustainable and efficient, while increasing creative potential.
It starts with so-called 'Mesh Mould' technology, using a two-metre high robot. The 'In situ Fabricator' moves autonomously via caterpillar tracks, then welds together a wire mesh that is filled with concrete.
The work is taking place at NEST (Next Evolution in Sustainable Building Technologies), a research construction site by the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, known as Empa, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, or Eawag.
