On Wednesday she sat in the Golden State Valkyries’ training facility in Oakland alongside former Maryland guard Shyanne Sellers and general manager Ohemaa Nyanin less than 48 hours after being selected in the WNBA draft. The night before, third-round pick Chen and second-round pick Sellers attended the Golden State Warriors’ play-in game at Chase Center after coming directly from Monday’s draft in New York.
WNBA rookies always have to deal with the quick turnaround to being a pro. For Chen and Sellers, the transition to the pros will have the added element of playing for the league’s new team.

Chef Pim Techamuanvivit, who owns Michelin-starred restaurants Kin Khao and Nari in San Francisco, received the award from New Zealand, where she was picking grapes on her new vineyard.
Phan, the San Francisco chef behind the Slanted Door who died earlier this year, was famous for changing the way the mainstream dining public saw Vietnamese food.

After every major California wildfire of the 21st century families who have paid insurance companies for years have learned that their policies wouldn’t pay them enough to rebuild. This phenomenon, known as underinsurance, is typically attributed to inflation and the rapid surge in reconstruction costs following mass catastrophes.
But the primary driver of the problem is insurance companies’ reliance on a fundamentally broken system to predict rebuilding costs, which leaves many fire victims without homes and slows the rebuilding of entire communities, a Chronicle investigation has found.
