- It’s the ultimate rotisserie chicken showdown.
The Chronicle’s food team conducted a blind taste test to find the Bay Area’s best rotisserie chicken.
The team fanned out across San Francisco and the East Bay, procuring chickens from restaurants, butchers and grocery stores, and then bringing them to the Chronicle newsroom.
That means birds from Costco and Gus’s Community Market went up against chickens from restaurants like RT Rotisserie and Daytrip Counter, the newest in the flock.

- Dr. Stephen Hauser was a young resident at Harvard when he met his first patient with multiple sclerosis, a woman with a thriving professional life who’d been completely wiped out by her condition, paralyzed on one side and unable to speak.
It was heartbreaking, he recalled. He was struck by how cruel the disease seemed, how it could crush the lives of young patients. He pledged to tackle a disease that at the time had almost no treatment options.
That was more than 40 years ago, and a therapy that Hauser championed — through repeated setbacks and the discouragement of people who didn’t believe what he was doing would work — has now completely altered the course of multiple sclerosis for the most common form of the disease.

Led Zeppelin played a sold-out concert here.
Phil Ginsburg, general manager of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, calls Kezar “the people’s stadium.”
But through it all, its founder has been all but erased from history.

- Berkeley documentarian Jason Cohn’s latest project is among the casualties of recent federal cuts to the arts by President Donald Trump’s administration, specifically his Department of Government Efficiency.
Known as DOGE and headed by Elon Musk, the department drastically instituted mass firings from government entities such as the National Institute of Health, the Internal Revenue Service and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Before marking his first 100 days in office, the president and his administration also laid waste to the National Endowment for the Humanities, which supports museums, educational institutes, filmmakers and many other projects intended to illuminate American history.
After reducing staff by up to 80% and a mass cancellation of grants already awarded, several Bay Area filmmakers are now scrambling for alternative ways to finish their projects.
