- December 16 is a public holiday, celebrated as a Day of Reconciliation between Blacks and White in post-apartheid South Africa. It is a day which attempts to strike a balance between a divided past and promoting national unity and reconciliation.
Leihlo la Sechaba followed perpetrators of apartheid including former Law and Order Minister Adriaan Vlok who is part of a charity to feed orphans and the poor in black townships. We also visited victims of apartheid including the children of Johannes Sambo who was tortured and burnt beyond recognition by the Vlakplaas unit led by Eugene de Kock. He was accused of helping people cross into Mozambique through Mpumalanga to join the liberation forces. His body was never found and his children are trying to meet the perpetrators to show them where they killed him.

- Gangsterism is spiralling out of control in townships. A community of Bekkersdal in West Rand is enraged and shocked at members of gangs who killed each other. In the process, innocent members of the community got caught in the firing line.
In Etwatwa near Daveyton in the East Rand, three members of the gang were burnt alive by community members. They accused them of disturbing order in their area. Leihlo La Sechaba talks to these gang members, the police in the respective places and affected family members. Which elements in the community sparked these gang-related deeds?

- In a bid to increase the participation of young people in agriculture, the Mpumalanga provincial government has set aside R80 million for a Young Farmers Incubation programme. Through the exercise, 20 youth co-operatives, comprising about 80 young people, will undergo agricultural training covering poultry, crop and livestock farming.
In the meantime, land has already been identified where the young farmers will be able to farm once they finish their theoretical and practical training. We look at how this training project can impact an ageing farming community and contribute to provide food security for our country.

- Leihlo la Sechaba tonight investigates the educational rights of disabled children, especially the deaf, as September is Deaf Awareness month. The Department of Higher Education and Training is intensifying a campaign to assist disabled children with bursaries and funding, to obtian a post matric to ensure that they are equipped to contribute to the country’s growth. Currently about R60 million from the Department, earmarked for bursaries, is returned to Treasury due to an insufficient uptake by students. Our programme looks at how much information is available to disabled children and parents to help them further their studies.

- The Mine Provident Fund is trying to trace ex miners who left without claiming their benefits which collectively amounts to approximately R 2 billion. This unclaimed amount belongs to ex-miners from neighbouring countries and rural parts of South Africa.
This programme has won the 2015 Southern African Development Community’s SADC Media Awards. The award was awarded at the recent 35th Summit of the Heads of State and Governments in Gaborone, Botswana held from 17-18 August 2015.
