Xi was welcomed in Hanoi on Monday by Vietnam’s top leader To Lam. He also held talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The two countries signed 45 agreements including on enhancing supply chains and on cooperation over railways.

- U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on ‘reciprocal’ tariffs for many countries, with the exception of those against China, which he raised to 125%, just hours after Beijing hiked its retaliatory tariffs against the United States to 84%.
Stocks rallied sharply on the news on Wednesday, as Trump said he was temporarily reducing duties for more than 75 countries to a universal 10% during the three-month period, saying these countries had reached out to negotiate a solution and have not retaliated against the United States.

- China said it “resolutely opposes” President Donald Trump’s imminent threat of escalating tariffs even as many other Asian nations scrambled to strike deals with the U.S. following its blanket imposition of punishing new imposts on trade.
Trump said Monday he would impose an extra 50% tariff on Chinese goods if Beijing doesn’t drop the retaliatory 34% tariff it placed on U.S. products last week. The White House doubled down on the threat Tuesday, declaring that the higher tariff would take effect at midnight.
