- Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., questioned acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday in a hearing before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee.
Blanche was invited to testify on President Donald Trump’s 2027 budget request for the Justice Department, but was expected to face questions on a number of issues.
On Monday, the Justice Department announced an “Anti-Weaponization Fund” as part of a settlement with Trump to end a lawsuit against the IRS over the leaking of his tax returns. The nearly $1.8 billion fund would offer payouts to Trump allies who claim they had been unfairly targeted by the Justice Department under the Biden administration.
Government watchdogs and Democratic lawmakers blasted the creation of the fund as corruption, saying it could reward – with taxpayer money – people who had helped storm the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, among others.

- Description
- The World Health Organization has declared an Ebola outbreak the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda is a global health emergency.
Most of the 300 plus suspected Ebola cases and 80 suspected ebola deaths have been reported in Congo, with two two confirmed cases reported in Uganda. Those two patients had reportedly recently traveled from Congo.
The cases are largely centered in Ituri, a province in the northeast part of Congo, already dealing with an ongoing humanitarian crisis and extreme violence from militia groups.
The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, a rare variant of Ebola that does not have an approved vaccine.
That, combined with the rapid rise in cases prompted the WHO to declare the situation a “public health emergency of international concern.”
The alert is not as high as a global pandemic emergency declaration like COVID-19, but it is meant to prompt a coordinated public health response.<...

- Description
- The U.S. Senate parliamentarian ruled over the weekend that an effort by Republicans to fast-track a $1 billion request for White House security enhancements, including President Donald Trump’s ballroom project, fails to meet the chamber’s own rules.
Lisa Desjardins reports that Senate Republicans had attempted to include the proposal as part of a budget reconciliation process, which allows the Senate to bypass the 60-vote threshold needed to avoid a filibuster, to advance legislation.
But to use the budget reconciliation process, senators must craft their legislation according to specific rules. Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough said that the proposal does not conform to those rules.
Lisa explains what happens next.

The area is located along the Potomac River, near the Lincoln Memorial and not far from the National Mall. The park is also home to several fields and volleyball courts.

The former Mesa County clerk had served less than two years of her roughly nine-year sentence for her role in a plot to examine voting machines after the 2020 election.
Polis, a Democrat, outlined his reasoning in a letter to Peters on Friday, writing, "You deserve to spend time in prison for these offenses. However, this is an extremely unusual and lengthy sentence for a first-time offender who committed nonviolent crimes."
President Donald Trump has pressured Colorado's leaders to free Peters. She's set to be released on parole on June 1.

- Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has released a rendering of the new design for the East Potomac Golf Course in Washington, D.C. – the famous, public golf course that overlooks the monuments at the nation’s capital.
The course is also at the center of an ongoing battle with the Trump administration as the president seeks to upgrade the historic municipal course.
Burgum unveiled the plan by Fazio Design in a X post Thursday and said it would provide locals “championship-quality golf at affordable, highly discounted rates.”
No details were given on what those rates would be.
The design appears to change the existing 36 holes across three courses to an 18-hole course long enough to host professional tournaments along with a shorter nine-hole course and larger practice area.
The administration’s plan to overhaul East Potomac has raised concern from many locals who value the old course’s dirt-cheap greens fees and la...
