- At a New York City Council hearing Wednesday, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the NYPD does not engage in civil immigration enforcement on behalf of the federal government, while noting that the department does work with its federal partners on "serious criminal matters."
"But when federal immigration operations come into a city and generate fear, and anger, and unrest, local police do not get to walk away from the consequences," she said. "They are the ones who stay, who respond to the next 911 call, who work to keep neighborhoods stable, and who have to rebuild trust that may have been damaged by actions that they themselves did not take. That makes their job harder, and our communities less safe."

As we know, it was on Irish soil that the British developed their colonial project,” said Mamdani, assembling Irish and Irish-American powerbrokers. - Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday announced that new 15 mph speed limits will come to all eligible school zones across the city by the end of 2029.
Mamdani said 800 new 15 mph zones will be installed by the end of the year, with the goal of implementation at all 3,200 “eligible public, private, parochial and charter K-12” schools by the end of 2029.
In announcing the new limit, Mamdani referenced Sammy Cohen Eckstein and his mother, Amy. Sammy’s Law was passed in 2024, allowing the city to reduce speed limits on individual streets, following years of activism after Sammy was killed by a Brooklyn driver in 2013.

- Rev. Richard Rock is the campus Minister for Athletics at St. John’s University, offering spiritual guidance to student-athletes on all 17 Red Storm teams — but he never misses a men’s basketball game. Father Rock grew up in Astoria, Queens as a big sports fan, and dedicated his life to giving back to the homeless and poor. He travels with the team, sits with them on the bench, and before every game, leads a pre-game prayer. Off the court, Father Rock goes with student-athletes to soup kitchens and shelters, inspiring them to give back to their communities.
