- June 15, 2017 Webcam Time Lapse & "Scary Looking Cloud"
- Date posted
- Description
- Here's a time-lapse video of a thunderstorm that passed by to the southeast of our office this evening. Notice the "scary looking cloud" that forms in advance of the storm at about 7:55 pm. This cloud formed on the gust front being pushed out from the storm and remained fairly consistent until moving out of view of the camera. A lot of people mistake clouds like this as s funnel cloud. Remember, if you think you see a funnel cloud but you don't see any rotation, then all you have is just a "scary looking cloud".

- NOAA Weather Radio Upgraded
- Date posted
- Description
- This morning (Wednesday July 14th, 2016) we cut over to a new system that runs our All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio. We used to run the weather radio system on technology that essentially hasn't changed since 1998. The operation of the weather radio has now been integrated into our main Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS II). This is our main networked computer system all NWS offices use for our warning and forecast operations. The only thing listeners should notice is a new and better voice. This system uses the NeoSpeech text-to-voice software. The voice dictionary may occasionally mispronounce words. Changes will be made over time to improve the dictionary. Please let us know if you hear any mispronunciation or something odd. Thanks!
