Second-grader Warren Cox was born with serious medical conditions, but his school nurse at Vandever Elementary helped create a care plan that allows him to learn, play and spend his day like any other kid.
As more Oklahoma students arrive at school with complex health needs, families like the Coxes say having a nurse on campus can make all the difference. Stories like Warren’s come as Oklahoma faces a shortage of school nurses, with many campuses sharing nurses or going without one entirely. Families say access to a school nurse isn’t just support — it’s essential.

As medical needs rise in classrooms, the number of registered nurses in schools is declining. Since 2020, districts statewide have lost more than 100 school nurses, leaving many campuses without a full-time RN.
Some districts, like Broken Arrow, say they are fully staffed. Others share nurses between multiple schools or rely on non-medical staff, which raises concerns for families and educators.

- Description
- Residents in Beggs, Mounds, Okmulgee, and Henryetta say their East Central Oklahoma Electric Cooperative bills have jumped hundreds of dollars in recent months, leaving many families struggling to budget and looking for answers.
Some customers report monthly bills of $500–$700, and many have joined online groups to compare statements and search for the cause. Members say the unpredictability is the most stressful part, especially for those on fixed incomes.
East Central Oklahoma Electric Cooperative says the increases are tied to larger-than-normal Power Cost Adjustments and Consumer Cost Adjustments, which spiked in November due to fuel costs and routine monthly fluctuations.
The cooperative plans to hold member engagement forums in 2026 to address concerns and offer more transparency.

- Runtime

- Date posted
- Description
- A major overhaul of Oklahoma’s criminal justice system is coming on January 1, 2026.
The Oklahoma Sentencing Modernization Act will categorize all felonies into new classes, from Class Y for murder, down through A–D for all other violent and nonviolent crimes. Each class will have its own sentencing ranges and minimum time-served requirements, creating a more consistent and predictable system statewide.
Supporters, including Rep. Mike Osburn and Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler, say the changes will help ensure that people convicted of the same crime receive similar consequences regardless of where they live in Oklahoma. Lawmakers call it a long-needed step toward clarity, transparency, and fairness.
This reform isn’t retroactive and will only apply to crimes committed after Jan. 1, 2026. Lawmakers say their next task will be standardizing sentencing for Y, A, and B classes.

Investigators say the train conductor saw the man trying to cross the tracks several yards ahead and blew the horns, but the man was not able to get off of the tracks in time for the train to stop.

- What happens to movie theaters if Netflix takes over one of Hollywood’s biggest studios?
Tulsa’s own Admiral Twin Drive-In is asking that same question.
Drive-in owner Blake Smith says 2025 was already a tough year for theaters, with few major hits, and now Netflix’s agreement to acquire Warner Bros. has him deeply concerned about the future of theatrical movies.

Corporate law expert Michael Motala explains why the concerns are real, citing the streaming industry’s history of disruption, from the fall of Blockbuster to the current shift in movie-watching habits.
Smith says it may not be the end of theaters, but it’s a major warning sign as the Admiral Twin prepares to celebrate its 75th a...
