- Description
- A recent change to federal gun regulations could eliminate certain registration requirements for some firearms and devices, but Nevada gun owners may still need to follow existing procedures.
The changes took effect Oct. 9, removing federal approval and registration requirements for certain firearms and devices previously regulated under the National Firearms Act. However, state laws could complicate how the changes may apply in Nevada.
Criminal defense attorney Joseph Gersten, founder of the Gersten Law Firm, says gun owners should not assume they can skip existing procedures when purchasing items such as silencers and short-barreled rifles.

The possible pause has Arts District business owners considering how the festival could return and what a break would mean for artists who depend on it.
“We’re probably going to take a pause and make sure that we’re going to get this right,” Berkley said.
She said Metro Police, city marshals and the First Friday Foundation are working together to address safety at the monthly event.

- Justice 30 Years Later: Duane "Keefe D" Davis sentenced for killing of Tupac Shakur | News 3 at 7pm

- Description
- More than 30 years after rapper Tupac Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, the only man ever charged in his death has been sentenced.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who was found guilty nearly two months ago of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing, was sentenced on Oct. 13 to 40 years to life in prison. Davis is expected to appeal the verdict.
Shakur was shot at a red light on East Flamingo Road after leaving a boxing match at the MGM Grand. He was with several Death Row Records associates at the time of the shooting.
The case saw no major developments until 2008, when Davis agreed to an interview with investigators about another rapper’s death and discussed the Las Vegas shooting. That led to an interview with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police the following year.
Police continued working to connect Davis to the crime, and he was arrested in 2023.
The trial in August lasted nearly two weeks. Jurors delibera...

Marine biologists say the sea lions are being drawn in by an abundance of food in the bay. Officials are hoping that when the food source moves on, the sea lions will, too.

- As floodwaters receded across the Las Vegas Valley after Tropical Storm Rachel, many wonder where all that water goes — and whether any of it can meaningfully help Lake Mead as Southern Nevada faces an ongoing water shortage.
Most stormwater in the valley is designed to move through flood control channels toward Lake Mead, though some water can remain in flood control areas along highways and flow down residential streets. Bronson Mack, a spokesperson for the Southern Nevada Water Authority, said, “Southern Nevada has a very robust flood control system.” He said the system “conveys all of the storm water through the washes and storm drains and detention basins and moves that water out to Lake Mead.”

- Flash flooding during Sunday's storm is believed to have contributed to the death of a person who was apparently living in a Las Vegas area tunnel, raising concerns about the dangers people experiencing homelessness face during severe weather.
The person's identity and official cause of death have not been released. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 3500 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard at about 1:11 p.m. Sunday where the person was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Local outreach organizations say the death underscores the challenges of warning people living in the valley's extensive network of underground tunnels and washes about the dangers of flash flooding.
Robert Banghart, vice president of community and governmental affairs for the Shine a Light Foundation, said getting those warnings to people can be a matter of life and death.

A 12-person jury found Davis guilty of first-degree murder following a multi-week trial in August.
Judge Carli Kierny, who presided over the trial, will determine sentencing after Davis waived his right to a jury recommendation. He faces up to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
Prosecutors argued that Davis planned the fatal shooting in retaliation for a fight involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson, on the floor of a Las Vegas casino.

- Grief-stricken but determined to keep his memory alive, the family of 15-year-old Carth Jacobs-Rodgers is asking the community to remember him as a child who was loved and had a future ahead of him.
Jacobs-Rodgers was killed during the First Friday shooting. His mother, Tara Mesaric-Rodgers, described him as “a goofball, funny, persuasive, always outsmarted pretty much everybody.”
Mesaric-Rodgers said her son was deeply loved by his family, and that he loved them just as deeply.
“We can't fathom him not being here and not calling us or walking through the door,” she said.

- Description
- Remnants of Hurricane Rachel are expected to bring strong winds and rainfall to the Las Vegas Valley this weekend, potentially disrupting outdoor events across the area. Organizers say they are monitoring the forecast and preparing backup plans to keep attendees safe.
From the Age of Chilvalry Renaissance Festival at Sunset Park to Pride celebrations across the valley, event organizers say they are hopeful the weather will cooperate but are taking precautions in case conditions worsen.
“We are way ahead of the game when it comes to the weather, so we will be prepared for that,” said Patrick Almeida, director of Clark County Parks and Recreation. “If you just keep track of our website, social media posts and media releases, we are going to watch the weather like everybody else here this weekend.”

- A deadly shooting at the First Friday event a week ago has renewed calls for stricter curfews for teens in the Las Vegas Valley, even as the city already has a curfew for minors.
Isaac Manriquez is charged with one count of open murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is being prosecuted as an adult and is being held without bail. He is due back in court on Oct. 13.
Carth Jacob Rodgers’ family released a statement just hours ago, remembering him as a teenager who was working to improve his life.
“Like many teenagers, Carth was still finding his way in this world. He wasn't perfect, and we would never pretend that he was. He was growing, learning, making mistakes, and most importantly, trying to change his life for the better,” the family said. “He wanted to become a better son, a better brother, and a better version of himself. He deserved the opportunity to become the man he was working so hard to be.”
