- The Minnesotans who challenged a state law restricting what people can wear when they vote are celebrated a U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this year that struck it down.
Minnesota contended the restrictions were reasonable, kept order at polling places and prevented voter intimidation. But the justices, in a 7-2 ruling, said the state's limits on political clothing violate the free speech clause of the First Amendment.

- The Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley is trying something new to the canine world – a new dog habitat style called group housing.
The enclosure houses up to six dogs at a time, where each dog has its own "den." Dens are for eating, sleeping and timeouts.
Group housing promotes socialization so dogs don't spend most of the day in a cage by themselves. This room opened to the public on Monday, and if successful, the Animal Humane Society hopes to create more like this one.

- Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson threw a wild card into the race for governor Monday, saying she'll run against state Rep. Erin Murphy and U.S. House Rep. Tim Walz in the Aug. 14 Democratic primary. She'll be joined on the ticket by retiring U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan.
"Together, joining forces, we intend to solve problems for the people of Minnesota and work on things like jobs and health care and education," Swanson told reporters Monday with Nolan by her side.
