Red and turquoise posters, stickers and boards crop up with near equal frequency in the gardens and windows of the Makerfield town. But there appears to be one demographic for whom the by-election vote seems clear.
After more than three hours in Hindley, including multiple laps of the town centre, trekking through residential streets, stopping every woman we came across, not one told us they planned to vote Reform’s Robert Kenyon.

- A Manchester school has gone into lockdown after three people were injured in a serious attack today. Police descended on the Co-op Academy, on Plant Hill Road, Blackley, this morning, with a schoolgirl arrested.
Three people have been left 'with knife wounds', a police spokesperson said. A force statement said: "Three people have been injured however injuries aren't believed to be serious at this time.
"Emergency services remain on scene and we are supporting the school. There is not believed to be any wider threat to the pupils and staff in the school."
Police and ambulance vehicles have been pictured outside the school gates and within the school grounds. A helicopter has also been pictured overhead. According to parents, the school is currently on lockdown.

Paul Quinn, 52, has been found guilty of raping a 33-year-old mother-of-two after he stalked and followed her, before dragging her down an embankment at the side of a motorway and brutally attacking her.
She was knocked unconscious after being strangled. The woman was left bloodied and bruised in the early hours of July 19, 2003 off Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, near the M61.
On Friday (April 17), Quinn, of Whipton Barton Road, Exeter, was found guilty of two counts of rape and well as inflicting GBH and a charge of attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle with intent.

Andrew Malkinson spent 17 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of the brutal rape and attack of a 33-year-old mother-of-two as she walked home in the early hours of July 19, 2003.
The woman was followed and then dragged down a motorway embankment off Cleggs Lane in Little Hulton, Salford, near the M61, where she was viciously attacked and raped.
Despite no DNA evidence linking Mr Malkinson to the notorious crime, he was prosecuted and convicted after the woman said she had been '100 per cent' sure that he was the perpetrator.
In 2004 at Manchester Crown Court, Mr Malkinson received a life sentence and was ordered to serve at least seven years behind bars. But he remained in prison until 2020, as he maintained his innocence and tried to lodge appeals to clear his name. He was only cleared in 2023.

- A 16-year-old boy who was mowned down and killed as he walked along a pavement by a driver who was targeting e-bike riders “loved life and loved people”, his father has said.
Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb was an “entirely innocent boy” when Zulkernain Ahmed, 21, hit him, throwing him into the air as he drove down the wrong side of a busy Sheffield street in June 2025, police have said.
Ahmed was found guilty of murdering Abdullah in February by a jury which was shown graphic video footage of how the defendant’s Audi S3 drove at a group of riders on Staniforth Road, in the Darnall area of the city, knocking one over a hedge.
It then showed how the vehicle ploughed into the teenager, also known as Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al-Yazidi, who could be seen throwing and catching a water bottle as he walked along the pavement moments before the collision.
