- A large-scale search on Brighton beach this morning has recovered the bodies of three women.
Police said that they had been called to the scene before 6am amid 'concerns for the welfare' of the women. Police have not yet identified the women.
Crews rushed to the beach alongside a helicopter and two lifeboats on Wednesday morning in what appears to be a search operation. Coastguard vessels have been spotted out on the water, with a significant police presence reported along the shoreline, reports the Daily Star.
In a statement, Brighton and Hove Police said: "Emergency services were called to concerns for the welfare of three women in the sea off Brighton at around 5.45am this morning (13 May). Sadly, the bodies of three women were recovered from the water near Madeira Drive."

- Voters in Hackney have had their say in the 2026 mayoral election.
The elected mayor will provide leadership and direction to Hackney London Borough Council and has overall responsibility for policy and services.
Before the election, the post was held by Labour's Caroline Woodley, who was elected in a 2023 by-election. The position of Mayor of Hackney was established in 2002.
In the 2026 contest a total of five candidates stood for election as mayor of the London borough, including Ms Woodley who stood for re-election.
Voters in Hackney have also elected 57 councillors to Hackney London Borough Council in the local elections.
Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 7, with the count taking place on Friday, May 8. Results for the Hackney mayoral election are due from 1pm.

Labour was too busy being all powerful to care. The joy of May 2015 and that landmark clean sweep are but a distant memory in 2026.
A seismic shift in Mancunian politics quickly became clear as the ballot boxes were emptied at this year's local elections. The Greens, still buzzing from Hannah Spencer's victory at the Gorton and Denton by-election in February, will be the ones celebrating into the night this time around.
