- You probably don’t know Tré Seals’ name, but there’s a good chance you’ve seen his work on signs carried by Black Lives Matter protesters across the country this year. Seals runs Vocal Type Co. -- the last Black-owned font foundry in the U.S. He specializes in making typefaces inspired by minority cultures -- and particularly by social justice movements. Meticulous historical research goes into each of his fonts, which are given names like “Martin” and “Marsha” to honor icons like Martin Luther King Jr. and gay liberation activist Marsha P. Johnson.

- It's not news that President Trump isn't a fan of the news media. Since the start of his first presidential campaign, he has consistently questioned the credibility of journalists and their news organizations. But in recent months, attacks on the press have ramped up and even turned violent as reporters covering Black Lives Matter protests were arrested and sometimes physically assaulted by law enforcement officers.
Around the world, government crackdowns on the press have often preceded broader crackdowns on freedom. One cautionary tale is the example of Venezuela, where a once-free press has been censored and transformed into government-owned media. NBCLX's Isa Gutiérrez explores how efforts by government officials to discredit "the media" can threaten U.S. democracy and the safety of reporters and other citizens.

Brandon only colors his sketches for as many minutes as his subjects were alive, leaving partially-completed portraits that represent lives cut short. The subjects of his “Stolen” series include George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Botham Jean and 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones, among others.
“When that timer hits, I’m never ready for it,” he said. “I just look forward to the day that I no longer have to create these pieces.”

- As millions have lost jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some have turned to costly pyramid schemes to try to make ends meet . And sadly there are no shortage of multi-level marketing companies using coronavirus outbreak to profit on that fear, preying on those who have few alternatives to make money legitimately.
Usually framed as a “business opportunity,” pyramid schemes are illegal, get-rich-quick schemes that ask you to pay money upfront and then recruit others to join the scheme so you can you get a big payout. Some have products attached, but many don’t.
One such scheme currently making the rounds on social media is called “The Blessing Loom.” Questionable "opportunities" are also coming from multi-level marketing companies. NBCLX’s Fernando Hurtado explores the world of MLMs and explains how to spot a pyramid scheme.

When she was 9 years old, the police answered a call about loud music in her home that ended with a gun being pointed at her face. This is her experience in her own words.
I was nine and my mom was married to her then-husband. He was playing his music really loud.
We lived in an apartment complex. They asked him to turn the music down - they had asked him repeatedly. And he was hard-headed - he wanted to do what he wanted to do and that’s fine or whatever. But they ended up calling the police on him.
Marvin came in the room and he told us if somebody knocks on the door, don’t answer the door.
Ok, you know, we listen to the parentals.
He went in his room and closed the door. And he’s still playing the music. And I mean, it was loud, but it wasn’t too loud, where it was disrupting everything.

People are locked down and out of work, hungry and desperate, and often victims of domestic violence have no ability to get away from their abusers.
