- Description
- Introducing Lovin Explains, a new series by Lovin Malta where we break down the issues, stories and situations shaping Malta and the world, giving you the context you need to understand what’s happening and why it matters.
In our first episode, we look at femicide.
Following Lovin Malta’s updated list of femicides in Malta, one question repeatedly emerged: why wasn’t Daphne Caruana Galizia included?
The answer lies in what femicide actually means. It is not simply the murder of a woman, but the killing of a woman or girl because of her gender.
In this episode of Lovin Explains, we break down the meaning of femicide, how it became recognised in Maltese law, and why the distinction matters.

- Residents want peace and quiet. Tourists want an authentic Maltese holiday. So what’s the solution?
According to Miss Understanding Malta, it’s simple: why don’t the residents just leave?
The first episode of Lovin Malta’s brand-new satirical series has officially dropped, taking viewers to Swieqi, where overtourism, short-let accommodation and the changing character of the locality have become a growing source of frustration.
Presented by Clara, the episode explores the clash between residents struggling with noise, waste and rising housing costs, and visitors eager to enjoy Malta’s nightlife while staying in what they believe is an authentic neighbourhood.
Through a series of deadpan interviews with residents, tourists and people working in the area, Clara tries to make sense of the situation before arriving at a typically unconventional conclusion: what if all of Swieqi became one giant tourist village?

He recalled how doctors gave his father just six months to live after being diagnosed with cancer, only for him to undergo treatment abroad and go on to live another six years.
"Imagine if, during those six months... he had been given the option of euthanasia," Borg said. "We would have lost six years of my father's life."
Borg said those six years allowed his family to create memories they never thought they would have - travelling together, spending more time together and watching his father regain his quality of life.
