- Description
- Starring Seth Rogen as put-upon studio head Matt Remick, who tries to balance his cinephilia with the demands of the job, the series turns topics like corporate intellectual property and meddling execs into high comedy (and high stress) situations. Created by Rogen and his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, "The Studio" also features Catherine O'Hara as Remick's recently canned predecessor, Ike Barinholtz as his dissolute colleague and best friend, Kathryn Hahn as the lot's aggressive marketing chief and Chase Sui Wonders as a newly minted member of the studio's development brass.
The group stopped by the L.A. Times studio at SXSW on Saturday to discuss how the power dynamic between actors and executives has evolved, what the general public gets wrong about studio chiefs, and why "streamers are not the underdogs in today's Hollywood." Watch the full interview below.

“Tomorrow — tariffs 25% on Canada and 25% on Mexico. And that’ll start,” Trump told reporters in the Roosevelt Room. “They’re going to have to have a tariff.”
Trump has said the tariffs are to force the two U.S. neighbors to step up their fight against fentanyl trafficking and stop illegal immigration. But Trump has also indicated that he wants to even the trade imbalance with both countries as well and push more factories to relocate in the United States.

She started collecting photos she found around the neighborhood – some with singed edges and notes on the back, some in strangely perfect condition – and created a website and Instagram called “Eaton Fire Found Photos” in the hopes that someone might recognize a person or place in a photo that could provide a clue about the family it belonged to. She cleans and stores the things she finds – the photos but also book pages and childhood drawings – in archival envelopes in temperature-controlled storage until they’re claimed.

- Backcountry skiing is growing in popularity, but experts warn it’s more dangerous than you think
- Runtime

- Description
- When 19th-century California naturalist John Muir famously said, “The mountains are calling and I must go,” he couldn’t possibly have imagined slushy parking lots crowded with Teslas and short tempers, or bars selling $15 beers.
The allure — some would say the siren song — of the backcountry is the absence of everything resorts represent.
But backcountry skiing isn’t for the faint of heart. If anything goes wrong, there’s no one there to help, cell service is spotty, at best, and even if you can make a call, help might take hours to reach you.
And then there’s the risk of an avalanche.
In the last decade, at least 234 people in the U.S. have been killed by avalanches — the vast majority in the backcountry, according to data compiled by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center and the U.S. Forest Service. Some victims were hikers and snowmobilers, but more than half were skiers. Reporter Jack Dolan says that’s a shocking ...

Even academic studies and research have pointed to some potential benefits of extra height for men in particular, including higher pay, more career success and greater productivity.
There are possible complications from leg-lengthening surgery, including rare cases of blood clots traveling to the lungs — which Debiparshad said hasn’t happened to his patients. And critics say there aren’t enough long-term studies documenting the effect on people as they age.
For many though, the costly, painful procedure is worth the risk.

There are at least 3,000 to 4,000 insect and spider species in Los Angeles — and the figure is likely much higher.
Lisa Gonzalez, an entomologist and program manager of invertebrates for L.A. County’s Natural History Museum, said taking in this vast kingdom requires you to slow down while moving through the world.
These creatures are small and often need to stay still, hide or be camouflaged to survive, she said.
The payoff can be profound.
"There's this whole hidden world that most people never get to see or don't know about," Gonzalez said on a hike in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park in northeast L.A. over the summer.
There are flies that resemble hefty bees, and bright green spiders that pounce on hapless pollinators. A black beetle frequently seen on L.A. trails sticks ...

After last month’s devastating wildfires, the city and many of its residents are now trying to process the heartache of having lost so much while trying to figure out what’s next and how to rebuild. But where there’s heartache, there also hope and optimism — something that “Sesame Street” reminds us of on a regular basis.

- While the wildfires in L.A. were raging, arson arrests spiked. But the connection between the two occurrences might not be what you expect.
Authorities say the arson arrests were likely the result of increased public attention to a problem that predates the firestorm — small, common fires often started by people experiencing homelessness or suffering from mental illness. The city is constantly burning to some degree, one arson investigator said; it’s just that people aren’t always calling 911 to report it.

- The EPA usually has months to clear hazardous waste from wildfires. In L.A., it has 30 days
- Runtime

- Date posted
- Description
- This week, federal EPA officials are supervising specialized crews as they begin sweeping residential communities for the most dangerous materials still sitting in the debris from the fires — like firearm ammunition, propane tanks, pesticides, paint thinner and car batteries.

- Description
- At the Sundance Film Festival, The Times caught up with 94-year-old civil-rights activist and labor union leader Dolores Huerta, who was at the festival to promote a screening of filmmaker Gregory Nava’s 1983 film “El Norte,” for which Nava was nominated for best original screenplay. Given her life’s work and the timing of the Sundance screening – a little over a week into Trump’s second term, which has already drastically altered reality for many in the U.S. and has incited panic in America’s immigrant communities – The Times asked Huerta for her thoughts on the state of affairs in the U.S. and how ...
