Brian Buckner, of Lorena, says he wants to do what he can to help his family, friends and community in his small hometown of Burnsville, North Carolina, a place where he lived from birth to 19-years-old. He has already raised more than $20,000 to purchase much-needed supplies.
“Our town was struck pretty hard with floods and over 30 inches of rainfall. Four inches is catastrophic usually up there so you can imagine what it is,” Buckner said.
Burnsville is a town 40 miles northeast of Asheville with a population of fewer than 1,700 people. Residents speculate they’ve lost 50 plus residents in the area with dozens of others still missing.

- NEW YORK (AP) — #TimWalz and #JDVance will meet for their first and possibly only vice presidential #debate, in what could be the last debate for both campaigns to argue their case before the election.
The debate in New York hosted by CBS News will give Vance, a Republican freshman senator from Ohio, and Walz, a two-term Democratic governor of Minnesota, the chance to introduce themselves, make the case for their running mates, and go on the attack against the opposing ticket.
Tuesday’s matchup could have an outsized impact. Polls have shown Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump locked in a close contest, giving added weight to anything that can sway voters on the margins, including the impression left by the vice presidential candidates. It also might be the last debate of the campaign, with the Harris and Trump teams failing to agree on another meeting.

“When you’re on a bike it’s like you get to see the world in slow motion,” Webb said.
The couple met through cycling. Webb, new to cycling at the time, attended a group ride organized by Woods. Woods said that bond is what made them decide to get married at a bike race.

“I’m getting pretty feeble, but my son is very good at putting my chair out and my cooler beside it with ice water in it, and as long as I can sit there and shoot, I’m going to do it forever,” Haas said.

Elijah Ockleberry, of Jarrell, and his mom, Alicia Jo, spent the weekend at the home of Jimmy Bennett, the founder of JMB Fishing Foundation, so Jimmy could take Elijah on a hunting trip at his land between Riesel and Mart.
“I have autism and some other health problems, but I met Jimmy when I was five, and he’s been taking me out to go fishing and hunting and this weekend I went on my first dove hunt,” Elijah said. “The first day I shot one and the second day I shot another one.”
