- Two Central Texas cheer programs returned home with medals from the All-Star World Championship, one of the sport’s biggest events that draws elite teams from around the world.
The All-Star World Championship 2026 was held April 16-19 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, and is widely considered the pinnacle of the competitive cheer and dance season.
Powerhouse All-Stars in Belton brought home two gold medals.

The recall effort follows the council’s decision to annex and rezone about 700 acres along Bob White Road, clearing the way for the proposed $700 million data center.

- KWTX) - Protesters gathered on the steps of the McLennan County Courthouse Monday morning to express frustration over a plea deal for a former Waco attorney accused of sexually abusing his son’s friend.
Adam Hoffman pleaded guilty last week to indecent assault and displaying harmful material to a minor. According to the plea deal offered by the Texas Attorney General’s Office, Hoffman will serve 30 days in jail.
When Hoffman originally went to trial almost a year ago, he was facing a first-degree felony charge, which could have meant life in prison without parole.
Christina Loredo says she is among the many shocked to hear that Hoffman’s charges had been dropped to two Class A misdemeanors.
“We have questions how a sex offender can get sentenced 30 days, whenever his original sentence was 20 years to life,” Loredo said.

- Jenna Maler is a national champion. The West High School and senior at Midland University in Nebraska recently won gold at the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Championships in New Orleans.
Maler lifted a combined total of nearly 1,200 pounds. She squatted 217.5 kg (479 pounds) and benched an easy 125 kg (275 pounds). She also deadlifted 200 kg (about 440 pounds).
Though, Maler tells KWTX the national title win as a team was much more meaningful.
“Midland is very team-centered,” said Maler. “Winning a national title is not even the biggest deal to me. It was more about winning as a team. We were like individual chess pieces. The big goal is to win as a team, not really for yourself.”

Ivy was murdered on April 4, 2024, while visiting friends at the apartment complex.
According to his mother, Jamie Moyer, someone broke into the apartment and opened fire.
“They were hanging out and someone opened the apartment door and shot five times, and Austin just so happened to be in the vicinity of the area and when he saw the person with the gun he took off running down the hallway and he was shot three times in the back,” Moyer said.

Jerry Wayne Craigo, 43, was walking along the shoulder lane when he was hit from behind on the afternoon of March 30. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Monique Stone, Craigo’s former employer and close friend, said she first met him and his dog Tank five years ago when he was still homeless.
“When I first met Jerry he and Tank were sitting on the corner of 10th St. and Veterans Memorial Blvd.,” Stone recalled.

April 16 marks the three-year anniversary of Strand’s death.
In the early morning hours of April 16, 2023, Strand was with friends in the 6th Street area of Austin, Texas, when she was separated from her group.
On April 21, 2023, her body was discovered on Lower Troy Road, just outside of Temple in Bell County.
In an effort to advance the investigation, the sheriff’s office released video of a person of interest, and is asking the public’s assistance in identifying this individual.
Fox 7 Austin spoke with the woman’s family, who claim Strand was assaulted inside a club in Austin, then kicked out, the night she disappeared.

- A young couple renting a home in Lorena said they are relocating after a lightning strike sparked a fire in the attic and left the house unlivable.
The couple, who are in their 20s and asked not to be identified, said the strike happened around 8 a.m. Saturday, April 4, in the Park Meadows neighborhood in Lorena while they were out of state.
Firefighters were able to put out the attic fire before it spread further, the renter said, and no injuries were reported.
The couple said they are moving out of the home due to the damage. The renter said they he believes said five other homes in Park Meadows have reportedly also been hit by lightning in recent years.
“We’re very, very glad we weren’t there,” the renter said. “It would have been traumatic if we’d have been there.”

Abbe shared a life with Jones on the court and far beyond it. Known to many as “MJ”, she was more than an athlete, she was a presence, a force that people felt the moment she walked into a room.

Dr. Blaine McGraw was initially charged in December with indecent visual recording, conduct unbecoming an officer, disobeying a superior officer and making a false statement.
New preferred charges include sexual assault and abuse, attempted sexual assault, extramarital sexual misconduct and secretly filming an alleged victim at a residence off post. The number of specific incidents has risen from 54 to 146.
Many alleged victims learned of the new charges through news articles or social media.

In his workshop, Aaron Rodeffer measures, saws and hammers pieces of wood into simple crosses. Then, he places them in his front yard with a sign that reads: “Free crosses. Happy Easter.” Anyone passing by is welcome to take one.
Rodeffer started the tradition in 2020 while working on other projects in his shop.
“It was almost like I got a little nudge on the shoulder, God speaking to me,” Rodeffer said. “He says, ‘Why don’t you make some crosses?’”

“Before today, it was virtually impossible … for War Department personnel to get permission to carry and store their own personal weapons aligned with the state laws where we operate our installations. … Well, that’s no longer,” Hegseth said.
“The memo I’m signing today directs installation commanders to allow requests for personal protection — to carry a privately owned firearm — with the presumption that it is necessary for personal protection,” he continued.
Hegseth said the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment applies to all Americans, including those in uniform.

At first glance, it doesn’t feel like a water treatment site. Instead of constant machinery, there are birds, tall grasses, and open water. But the Waco Wetlands are a man-made, constructed wetland system designed to do two big jobs at once: replace lost habitat and help improve water quality before river water reaches Lake Waco, Waco’s primary drinking-water supply.

The sanctuary is a total loss. “It’s heartbreaking because this is more than just a church,” said Pastor Bryan Hill, “This was a sanctuary for the community.”

- (KWTX) - The use of drone technology and other devices is making it harder to treat service members wounded on the battlefield, prompting the Army to change how it provides medical care.
“You cannot set up a multi-tent field hospital that occupies 4, 5, up to 15 acres and provide that world-class care above ground anymore. So, we have to disperse number one, and then hide in plain sight, is number two,” said Col. Kamil Sztalkoper, III Corps Public Affairs.
The 1st Medical Brigade is training to take the wounded to an underground medical facility where medical professionals and surgeons are waiting.
The tunnel includes an optometry station where medical staff can do on-site eye exams and make a pair of glasses in under 24 hours. The facility also has an area where they can do triage and operate on site.

Cristian Guerra, 15, pitched 6.2 innings in a game against West in which McGregor won 4-3 with a walk off by player Cason Corley. Guerra struck out 17 of 20 total outs recorded and faced 26 batters.
Texas High School baseball has a pitch count of 110, meaning you can’t start a new batter after that. Guerra threw 111 pitches before being relieved for the final out of the game.
