On Thursday, the company confirmed to KIRO 7 News that it’s making cuts to its AGI – Artificial General Intelligence Unit.
Artificial general intelligence is a hypothetical type of AI system that can match or surpass human intelligence and can learn, grow, and operate autonomously.
Amazon has not confirmed how many employees are impacted in this round of layoffs or where they are based.

Unfortunately, the open water proved deadly for a kayaker in the Tacoma area this week.
Witnesses say that around 7 a.m. Tuesday, they heard a kayaker about 100 yards offshore of Dash Point Park screaming for help. He was holding onto his boat, which was sinking.
Pierce County deputy Carly Cappetto said a paddleboarder was able to reach the man and bring him back to shore, while others called 911.
Cappetto - who was the first officer on scene - said firefighters performed CPR, but the 60-year-old kayaker died.
It’s not clear why the kayak sank.

Larry Simon is from Lake Charles, Louisiana, and says he almost lost more than $41,000.

Linda Irish said she, her wife and their 10-year-old were loading up the car on July 11 when the man across the street started yelling from inside his house.
She said she walked into the street, yelled at him to be quiet and got attacked.
“The pain was, like, searing,” Irish said.
A home security camera captured the neighbor, identified by deputies as Andy Dimitrov, walking toward Irish. As he approaches, he is seen pulling a baseball bat out from under his jacket and hitting her on the side, the video shows.
“He reared back like he was playing for the M’s and just swung, and caught me right below my scapula,” she said.
