- KIRO 7 is learning more about the emergency response to the Kenmore Air floatplane crash off the San Juan Islands on Thursday.
The Coast Guard’s Northwest division tells us they were able to send small boats out to the scene almost immediately from their Bellingham and Port Angeles bases.
Coast Guard Commander Michelle Foster said they also sent larger vessels from Seattle as well.
They say when a call this major goes out, crews suit up and go as fast as possible.
“We try to launch within 30 minutes. Usually we beat that. Usually we’re pretty fast,” Foster said.
She tells us when their crews arrive on scene, their goal is to quickly assess. That includes looking for people in the water, getting victims off any civilian boats that may have arrived on scene first, and looking for any imminent dangers.

- Three women were injured during a shooting in North Seattle early Thursday morning, police say.
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers first responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Aurora Avenue N and N 96th Street at around midnight.
Arriving officers found an abandoned silver Ford riddled with bullet holes.
A short time later, police learned that three women had walked into UW Medical Center Northwest for treatment. One of the women had been shot multiple times, while the other two sustained injuries from shattered glass. All three women were reported to be in stable condition.

- All 11 people on board a Kenmore plane that crashed in the San Juan Islands on Thursday evening have been accounted for.
The plane crashed around 5:15 p.m. off Sucia Island.
Kenmore told KIRO 7 that the plane left Lake Union and was headed to Roche Harbor. There were 11 people on board (10 passengers, 1 pilot).
All people on board have been accounted for.
According to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, one person has critical injuries. Other injuries range from broken bones to head injuries and lacerations.
Two people were taken to a hospital in Bellingham, and two others were taken to a facility on Orcas Island.
