This press conference followed in the wake of a shooting that occurred last night in the parking lot at Central Academy of Excellence.

- For Kansas City Public Schools, our marketing efforts are not limited to strictly to a few radio or newspaper ads; our strategic efforts encompass many pieces of the overall puzzle. It’s a comprehensive plan that tells the unique story of each of our schools, leading to a positive account of the district.
To start effectively promote the 2019-2020 school year, the Communications & Engagement Department kicked off an aggressive marketing plan that incorporated traditional advertising, online and social media campaigns, in-school efforts, and new boots-on-the-ground efforts.
Applications for the 2019-2020 school year will be accepted online starting on Tuesday, December 4. Applications can be submitted online at http://enrollkc.org or at the Board of Education building located at 2901 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64109.

- On Tuesday, November 20th. KCPS began enacting the KCATA Student Pass Program. The Student Pass offers free and unlimited rides on public buses to KCPS high school students. KCATA staff visited Central Academy of Excellence for a special “learn to ride” event. Students who had completed the sign-up process for the initiative received their complimentary bus passes. KCATA staff then led the students through a program to teach them bus-rider protocols and how to use the KCATA system so that they can get where they need to go. About 300 students have sign-up so far to receive bus passes. This is a great example of how we are “all in” for our students!

- KCATA will soon be offering a free Student Pass too high school students. Three school districts, Kansas City Public Schools, Hickman Mills C-1 School District and Center Public School District, are participating in a one-year pilot program to supplement current school bus transportation and allow students to connect to opportunities for jobs, internships, and extra-curricular activities outside of regular school hours. #RideKCStudentPass

KCPS welcomed rapper Dee-1 and the Sallie Mae organization for the 2018 College and Career Explosion at Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts to encourage students to apply for student scholarships and grants so that they can afford college.
