- As the January 31st deadline for full payment of 2023 property taxes looms, the Brazos County Tax Assessor’s Office is urging residents to take prompt action to fulfill their obligations.
The deadline excludes those who opted for the half-payment option.
County officials say taxpayers intending to make in-person payments should explore alternative payment methods to avoid anticipated long wait times at the Tax Office.
To streamline the process and enhance safety, the tax office recommends utilizing secure drop boxes, including a walk-up payment box near the front door for daytime transactions. Payments dropped after 5:00 PM are considered next-day payments.

- Property tax cuts reshape Brazos Central Appraisal District
- Date posted
- Description
- In November 2023, Texan voters expressed overwhelming support, with 83 percent—equivalent to over two million individuals—favoring the approval of Proposition 4. This proposition aimed to raise the homestead tax exemption from $40,000 to $100,000. However, this significant change brings about modifications in the governance structure of the Brazos Central Appraisal District, particularly within the board responsible for setting policies and approving contracts.
With the successful passage of Proposition 4, counties boasting a population of 75,000 or more will witness a transformation in their board composition. Three elected members will be added to the board, chosen through the general election scheduled for May 2024. This adjustment will elevate the total number of members on the Brazos Central Appraisal District Board of Directors to nine, as mandated by Proposition 4.
The newly expanded board will consist of five members appointed by participating taxi...

- Date posted

- Description
- Flooding has been an issue across the Brazos Valley this week.
Michele Meade, the Brazos County Emergency Management Coordinator, says there have been extensive flooding concerns in the past because rivers border both sides of the county. She says Brazos County has been fortunate this week as the rain has been spread out over several days, so only a limited number of roads have had to be closed, and there has been very little damage.
Meade says her concerns surround the new developments in our areas as our community grows.
“I have some huge concerns, and I think a lot of people are really watching for this as we go forward,” Meade said. “Where are we going to show up with water where we didn’t have water before? Where are we going to push water into because of development upstream?”
