- Texas A&M is working to correct what it calls misinformation about the university and its campus in Qatar.
Last week, reports from several outlets, including the Jerusalem Post, referenced a letter from the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP) to U.S. officials about “alarming research findings exposing Qatar’s unreported and unregulated funding to Texas A&M University,” among other places of higher education with locations in the Middle East.
The ISGAP is expressing concern over what they call undisclosed foreign contributions to U.S. universities, including Texas A&M. The report highlights allegations that Qatar has gained control over more than 500 research projects at Texas A&M, with potential risks to national security. ISGAP has communicated its findings to high-ranking U.S. officials through a letter before the New Year holidays. - How to winterize your car ahead of freezing weather
- Date posted

- Description
- You might not be a fan of winter weather, and your car isn’t either. Automotive experts say winterizing your car could keep you safe on the road; and your wallet safe from costly repairs.
“Check your battery, check your tires, and just make sure that your overall vehicle is running,” Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas said.
According to Armbruster, a majority of AAA’s winter roadside calls are for either dead batteries or flat tires; many of which are preventable.
“I know we’re looking at a potential cold situation next week, so now is the time to get that done,” Paul Ward, general manager of Asher Automotive, said.

McCaul went on to say that he will be leading a Texas delegation to the border and Mexico City next week to discuss what’s happening and what the Mexican government can do to work on the issue. The bipartisan deal for policy changes regarding border security fell through recently, but McCaul said he is optimistic about coming to an agreement.

Lopez said he was alerted about the conditions at the facility, which is located at the corner of Capps and Ward, at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 9.
The sheriff said his investigation is just now beginning. The shelter was “filthy,” Lopez said, adding the floor was covered in feces. “I did talk to the mayor about this and I need her to do her own thing and start her investigation,” the sheriff added.
Jeffrey Rich told KWTX he was looking for a stray dog at the facility and was horrified when he peeked inside the shelter. “I lifted up the tarp and I seen a dead dog and I started looking around and that’s when I seen that all of them were skin and bones, and the amount of feces in the kennels,” Rich said.

- Focus at Four: How to keep animals warm during freezing weather
- Date posted
- Description
- Despite some warmer weather over the next few days, you are urged to prepare for significantly colder weather in the upcoming week.
That includes ensuring both indoor and outdoor animals are safe.
Aggieland Humane Society’s Executive Director, Katrina Ross, joined First News at Four to discuss not only how to keep animals warm, but what to do if you see an animal neglected.
“If a pet is shaking so much, and then they kind of stop shaking, if they’re just curled up just so. Again really the things to look out for. They have no access to shelter, if there is nothing, no dog house, there’s not a lean-to. If there’s nothing for them to get away from those elements, then that's a sign that, ok, I really should call,” said Ross.

- Date posted

- Description
- Buying a car can be exciting and ultimately, makes someone’s life easier. But an increase in used car scams during tax return season can do quite the opposite.
“You’ll see a lot of used cars hit the market where the down payment price or even the whole price of the vehicle is right at the average tax return so it might be to $2,000, $3,000 for that down payment.” Blake Jennings, the Founder and President of OnRamp said.
Some people are waiting anxiously for that check to hit their account, so they can hit that buy button. But, Jennings says this is the time for people to slow down.
“Especially on Facebook Marketplace, there’s nothing to keep them from scamming out of your money. So just trying to slow people down be patient. That’s actually our booklet’s last piece of advice is to be patient that will save 99% of time,” he said.

First Saturday is a monthly event that allows local artists to market and display their work as well as give people an opportunity to ask questions. DEGALLERY also offers classes for kids along with discounts on art. Owner Dary Dega said they have been putting the event on for four years already.
The event is open to any artist of any medium or level. That includes jewelry makers, wood makers, crafters and even kids.
“It’s very important for our local artists as an opportunity to advertise ourselves and sell the art,” Dega said. “A lot of markets around BCS are more farmers markets, not art markets, so we have a lot of people come in specifically to purchase art, see regional art, and talk with artists directly.”
