Companies are increasingly turning to renewable technologies - but acquiring the materials needed to facilitate green technology is not so ethically sound. Cobalt is a metal essential for producing batteries for electric cars and devices, with 70% coming from The Democratic Republic of Congo. But the cobalt trade is rife with corruption and negligence. 'People are dying through a lack of safety. If a worker dies, they bury the person, hiding the corpse', says an employee of one major Chinese company which operates an industrial cobalt mine. Though Russia has a far larger military than Ukraine, nobody could have bargained for the ferocity of the resistance Ukrainians have shown against Putin's assault on their independence. 'Wherever the enemy is, we'll find them and fight them', says one Ukrainian military commander. But what precisely led to a war erupting between the two nations? Russia has been supporting a proxy war in Ukraine since 2014, funding separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk for the past 8 years - a conflict which emerged out of Russia's annexation of Crimea. 'It's like hell, I tell you. They keep shelling all the time', says one resident of a village on the front line of the conflict. In these regions, the Kremlin pushes...

Marriage and childbirth rates are falling, as more and more young Japanese choose to stay single and childless. Relationships are too difficult, they say. In the country's last Fertility Survey, figures showed that a quarter of women in their 30s were single, and half of those weren't interested in having a relationship. Many Japanese adults aren't even having sex. It's estimated around 10 per cent of people in their 30s are still virgins. By 2040, it's estimated nearly half of Japan's population will be single.

A UN report published last week says nearly 2,000 recruited by Yemen's Houthi rebels have died in the fighting. "We went to defend our land and country, we had to go to the fronts", a young boy says. "Of course, at first my father and mother didn't accept us carrying the weapon but then they did because it is a religious war", Ala'a, another young soldier adds. The recruitment of children takes place on both sides. "There are people who believe that fighting local groups with affiliation to foreign groups is an act of patriotism... As a result children are the victims of wrongful and exaggerated lobbying", explains sociologist, Abd Al-Kareem Ghanem.
