- The star of CNBC's The Profit explains to Robert Nestore, founder of Daycare Cleaning Services, why he should expand to other types of businesses, even if the profits aren't as high.
BY ZOË HENRY
Marcus Lemonis, the entrepreneur, investor, and star of CNBC's hit series The Profit, warns that business owners often get too caught up in percentages, forgetting that "raw dollars" are the true measures of your company.
"The incremental margin is still the incremental gross," he tells Robert Nestore, founder of Daycare Cleaning Services, in the most recent episode of Ask Marcus Lemonis.
Each week on Inc.com, a featured entrepreneur talks shop with the famed business fixer, and gets the opportunity to ask him one question about a pressing challenge.
Launched in 2001, Nestore's business specializes in cleaning daycare centers. Beyond your run-of-the-mill "trash and dash" technique, Daycare Cleaning Services sanitiz...

- The star of CNBC's 'The Profit' explains to Borzou Azabdaftari, managing partner at The Falcon Lab, how to concisely communicate what his business does.
BY ZOË HENRY
Marcus Lemonis, the entrepreneur, investor, and star of CNBC's hit series The Profit, has sage advice for multidisciplinary startups: "The tighter your story is, the less you can screw it up."
He cringes, on the other hand, at vague descriptors like "boutique" and "outsource," which Borzou Azabdaftari initially uses to explain what his company does.
Azabdaftari appears as the featured business owner on Tuesday's episode of Ask Marcus Lemonis. Each week on Inc.com, an entrepreneur meets with Lemonis, and gets the opportunity to ask him one pressing question about a major business challenge.

- We caught up with Jeremy DeVine, the founder of the surprisingly durable indie music label Temporary Residence, to find out how his company is weathering a music world that's all about streaming.
BY JON FINE
So making this video was slightly awkward, I guess, because I've known Jeremy DeVine--the founder of the renowned independent record label Temporary Residence --for years and consider him a good friend.
Also, I kind of owe him money.
I'm serious. In 2011 his label reissued my old band's records, and our sales have yet to recoup our advance and Temporary Residence's manufacturing costs.
That bit of business out of the way: DeVine is a pretty sui generis character in his milieu. An entrepreneur in a decidedly marginal sector--one devoted to brainy, off-center, and often difficult music that generally shares the DNA of various strands of the punk rock movement even if few of the bands on his label actually sound like, sa...

- Red Bull is bringing performance-enhancement techniques from the extreme-sports world to Silicon Valley.
BY JEFF BERCOVICI
It's a warm Friday evening at Red Bull's headquarters in Santa Monica, California, and Michael Johnson, the great Olympic sprinter, is talking about what he misses most from his days competing. It's not the gold medals he piled up, or the world records, or the fame and endorsement deals. It's the gut-churning sensation any ordinary mortal would probably dread.
"That's the actual thing I miss, the pressure," Johnson, who retired from competition in 2001, says. "Twenty minutes before a race, eight guys in a room, all of us know only of us will win. And it's probably going to be me."
The line gets a big laugh and appreciative nods from the small audience, whose members are mostly -- but not all -- professional athletes sponsored by the energy drink maker. They're here for a six-day clinic Red Bull is putting on ...

BY ZOË HENRY
Happy Medium is an advertising agency based in Des Moines, and founder and CEO Katie Patterson is wrestling with whether to add a second office. With 2014 revenue of $3.77 million, the firm has enough business to support another location, but Patterson is going through a divorce. She asks Marcus Lemonis, entrepreneur and host of CNBC's The Profit, for advice on what to do next.
"How big should my company be?"
Marcus Lemonis: Tell me about the business.
Katie Patterson: We do website and graphic design, development, social media implementation, and media buying.
ML: Do you do print ads? Do you do electronic ads?
KP: Everything. I started the company in 2011 and bootstrapped it. I didn't plan on employees, but I couldn't find anywhere to outsource, so now we're a team of 18. We got an offer to be acquire...
