- Julianna Washburn, Galveston County reporter for Houston Public Media, joins Hello Houston to talk about Galveston County's controversial new precinct map. The new lines take effect immediately and notably change the boundaries of Precinct 3, which has been at the center of the debate since commissioners radically shrunk the precinct's boundaries in 2021. It had been the county’s one precinct in which non-white voters represented a majority. Even though Black and Latino residents combine to make up nearly 40% of the Galveston County population, people of color no longer made up the majority of a single precinct with the map approved in 2021.

- Supreme Court Upholds Birthright Citizenship
- Runtime

- Description
- In a sharp rebuke to President Trump, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the Constitution guarantees automatic birthright citizenship to virtually all children born in the United States.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the court's 6-3 opinion.
The decision firmly rejected the executive order that Trump issued on the first day of his second term. It sought to bar citizenship for babies born in the U.S. to parents who either entered the country illegally or who are living and working here legally with temporary visas. The executive order never went into effect because every lower court judge who reviewed it concluded, in the words of one judge, that it was "blatantly unconstitutional."

- We talk with HPM's Melissa Enaje about the latest in a dispute over who will preside as Fort Bend County Judge after a civil lawsuit against KP George was dropped. Then we'll talk with Bianca Seward about the state-appointed HISD board approving a controversial, Bible-infused curriculum. Also, we mark an anniversary for a few key landmark Supreme Court rulings impacting gay rights: Lawrence v. Texas in 2003, the 2013 striking down of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, and, in 2015, Obergefell v. Hodges, in which the High Court ruled same-sex couples had a Constitutional right to marriage under the 14th Amendment. Then, our non-experts contemplate The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of the week. Finally, we preview the Ensemble Theatre's production of Get Ready, which explores the impact that shifts in popular music had on Black musicians starting in the 1950s.

- HISD board approves controversial Bible infused curriculum for 2026 27 school year

- Description
- Houston ISD's state-appointed board of managers greenlit Bible-infused curriculum for elementary school students at a special board meeting Thursday night, when the board also voted to adopt a $2 billion operating budget for 2026-27. The budget adopted by HISD includes a nearly $25 million deficit.
The state-developed Bluebonnet Learning curriculum for students in kindergarten through fifth grade has been criticized for its inclusion of biblical teachings in reading and language arts lessons. Its implementation also comes with a per-student financial incentive – more than $3 million in additional revenue for HISD, the largest school district in Texas.
