Fausto is barely holding on as it continues to weaken as it passes north of the Hawaiian Islands. @Jennifer Robbins continues to share a forecast in our favor with a quick update.
This evening, maximum sustained winds have dropped to 40 mph, and the storm is expected to weaken into a tropical depression on Wednesday before becoming a post-tropical remnant low by late Wednesday.
The good news: The strongest winds and heaviest rain are still expected to remain north of the islands over the open ocean.
The biggest impact for Hawaii continues to be the surf. Larger waves and powerful currents will keep pounding exposed east-facing shores through tonight and Wednesday. A High Surf Warning remains in effect, and conditions in the water will stay hazardous.
