Professor Folasade Ogunsola, opened another chapter in the history of the University of Lagos with her appointment as the 1st female and 13th Vice-Chancellor by the Governing Council on Friday, October 7, 2022.
The Professor of Medical Microbiology was born on November 14, 1958, in London, United Kingdom. She attended Maryhill Convent School, Agodi, Ibadan, and Staff School, University of Ibadan for her Primary Education from 1963 -1969. She proceeded to Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, from 1970 -1974, where she got the West African Secondary School Certificate, finishing in the Grade I Category.
In 1982, she graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). She finished her Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology with Distinction from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in ...

- A building under construction at the one-storey level suddenly collapsed at 96 Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque, Mushin, Lagos.
Three adult males have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injury. They were attended to at the scene before being transferred to the hospital for further treatment by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, and the cause of the emergency is currently under investigation

- Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a series of cash rewards to motivate and appreciate athletes representing the state at the Gateway Games 2024.
In a statement released earlier today, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence. According to him, all athletes currently in camp and accredited to represent Ogun State will receive ₦50,000 each within 24 hours — a gesture of appreciation for their hard work and commitment to excellence.
“We are proud of every athlete who has qualified to wear the Ogun State colours. They are the best of the best, and we will not let their dedication go unnoticed,” the governor said.
To further inspire top performance at the games, Governor Abiodun also unveiled a special reward structure for medalists:
• Gold medalists will receive ₦2.5 million each

- In a minor setback for Lagos State, a bus carrying five members of their logistics team to the 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State was involved in an accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway today, May 16, 2025, due to a reported tyre burst.
Thankfully, no fatalities occurred, and all individuals were safely evacuated.
Five to six team members were hospitalized but are in stable condition, receiving prompt medical care.
Emergency services acted swiftly, ensuring no serious injuries.
