- The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, yesterday alleged the presence of saboteurs within the Nigerian military, implicating them in the Yelwata massacre in Benue State that claimed over 200 lives.
Recall that in May 2025, during a television interview, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum declared: “We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian armed forces, within the politicians, and within the communities. What we shall do is to strengthen our intelligence and to deal with them ruthlessly.” He added: “Let’s remove contractocracy. In six months, we can put an end to this madness. We need not politicise insecurity.”

- President Bola Tinubu has ordered the country's security chiefs to implement his earlier directive to bring lasting peace and security to Benue State following fresh attacks in the town of Yelwata that killed at least 45 people.
Tinubu’s directive comes after an early morning attack on Saturday, which government officials said was carried out by armed bandits.
“Not fewer than 45 people have been confirmed killed by armed bandits in an early Saturday morning attack on Yelwata,” a town in Benue State, said spokesman Tersoo Kula. Some local residents told AFP the death toll could be closer to 100, with many homes also destroyed.
President Tinubu, in a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, described the killings as “very depressing”, “inhuman”, and “anti-progress”.
He said he had instructed intelligence agencies, the police, and the military to handle the situation and bring those responsible to justice.

- Description
- Former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, says he has no plans to decamp from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite openly backing President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Speaking to journalists after a private visit to the president in Lagos on Monday, Fayose declared, “Ayo Fayose will not move from PDP to any political party, not even APC. I am this year 65 years.”
Although reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Fayose didn’t shy away from criticising the opposition party’s internal crisis, warning that it risked becoming a “carcass” if urgent reforms weren’t pursued.
He acknowledged the president’s efforts to navigate Nigeria’s challenges and insisted that leaders across party lines should support the president in good faith. His visit comes amid increasing defections from the PDP to the ruling APC.

The protesters, who marched from the Lillypond Truck Park in Ijora to Apapa Port and Tin Can Island Port, warned that extortion checkpoints, racketeering, and terminal inefficiencies not only create financial strain on truck operators but also delay cargo movement by hindering truck entry and exit from the ports.

- President Bola Tinubu has called for more prayers for the military and security agencies currently making sacrifices to keep the nation safe, particularly those confronting terrorists and bandits.
The President, who observed the Eid-al-Adha prayers at the Eid Ground in Dodan Barracks, Lagos, told reporters that the security agencies and vulnerable citizens should top the prayer list.
"We should remember to pray and give to those who are very vulnerable in the spirit of the season, which is sacrifice. We must unite, remain our brothers' keeper, and give to our neighbours. We should show love to everyone.
"We must also pray hard for our troops to keep us safe. They are making sacrifices in the challenges that we face from terrorism and banditry today. We must pray for them specifically, remember their sacrifices, and continue to behave well as citizens," he added.
