- Description
- Five years ago, #EndSARS protest rallied Nigerian youth against police brutality, targeting the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. Today, we reflect on its impact and lessons.
In October 2020, Nigerians demanded an end to SARS’s alleged abuses. On October 11, the former Inspector-General,Muhammed Adamu disbanded SARS and promised reforms. Judicial panels investigated complaints, recommending compensation. Tensions flared, with incidents at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos drawing scrutiny. Investigations urged accountability and community policing. #EndSARS sparked a broader push for justice and reform.
As police training and awareness campaigns grow, #EndSARS protest endures as a powerful demand for fairness and accountability. As years go by, the event remains forever engraved in the hearts of many. We remember every life lost and hope their sacrifice will one day bring a new Nigeria.

- Commuters and civil servants were stranded for hours on Monday morning as soldiers and police mounted heavy security checkpoints and barricades on major roads leading into Abuja.
This followed reports about a planned protest the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The protest, expected to be led by the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, caused massive traffic gridlock across several entry points into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
As early as 4:00 a.m., military personnel had blocked the Keffi–Abuja Expressway at Karu Bridge, near the Sani Abacha Barracks, conducting stop-and-search operations on vehicles entering the city.

- Tinubu's Presidential pardon explained
- Runtime

- Description
- In every democracy, power comes with responsibility, and sometimes, that responsibility includes the power to forgive.
In Nigeria, that power is known as the Presidential Prerogative of Mercy, a constitutional right that allows the President to pardon, reduce, or commute a person’s sentence.
This October, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu exercised that power, and it has stirred both applause and debate.
So what exactly is a presidential pardon, who qualifies for it, and why has this particular one drawn so much attention?
Under Section 175 of Nigeria’s Constitution, the President has the power to grant pardons, reduce sentences, or commute death penalties after consulting the Council of State.
Simply put, it’s an act of mercy, a chance to forgive, free, or give a second chance. But not everyone qualifies, as an advisory committee reviews each case based on age, health, remorse, or good behaviour.

- Description
- It’s October 17, 2025, and today, we join the world to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. This isn’t just a day—it’s a call to our hearts, a reminder of who we are as Nigerians: resilient, communal, unbreakable.
Thirty-eight years ago, in Paris, thousands gathered to honor those fighting poverty’s grip. They carved a truth in stone: poverty is a violation of human rights. That truth echoes here in Nigeria, where millions of our brothers and sisters face daily struggles. For instance, families in Makoko and Ajegunle are unable to afford quality healthcare; farmers in Borno are hit by conflict and terrorism; and children on the streets of many northern states are dreaming of school but are held back by poverty and hunger.
Globally, according to the United Nations, 690 million people live on less than $2.15 a day. In Nigeria, poverty wears a familiar face: the mother selling petty goods in the market, praying for enough to feed h...

- The world today marks World Food Day 2025 under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.” The day, observed every October 16th, highlights the urgent need for collective global action to end hunger and ensure access to nutritious food for all.
According to the United Nations and the World Food Programme, global hunger remains a major concern, with over 295 million people across 53 countries facing acute food insecurity in 2024. Despite slight improvements in some regions, Africa continues to record the highest levels of hunger and malnutrition, driven by conflict, climate change, and economic challenges.
In Nigeria, the situation remains critical. Reports from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, UNICEF, and the World Food Programme indicate that between 30.6 and 33 million Nigerians are facing acute food insecurity in 2025. This figure reflects a worsening trend from previous years, with conflict, inflation, and climate shocks am...

- Description
- Today, October 15th, marks Global Handwashing Day 2025, and this year’s theme — “Be a Handwashing Hero” — calls on everyone to take personal responsibility for promoting hand hygiene as a simple but powerful act that saves lives.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, awareness about handwashing has grown significantly in Nigeria. During that period, the use of hand sanitizers became widespread, as people learned the importance of keeping their hands clean to prevent the spread of the virus. Public and private organizations installed handwashing stations, and local producers increased sanitizer supply across the country.
Before the pandemic, only about 16 percent of Nigerian households had access to basic handwashing facilities with soap and water, according to UNICEF. The COVID-19 crisis, however, spurred nationwide campaigns and community efforts that greatly improved awareness and practice, though challenges still remain in terms of ...
