- Confessed Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger now wants to take back his guilty plea from last summer, and a judge has set a court date. Kohberger pleaded guilty to killing four University of Idaho college students, but now he wants to withdraw the plea, claiming he was misled by his legal team. FOX previously reported on his petition, which he says his lawyers advised him to falsely confess to avoid the death penalty.
The judge set a status hearing for June 3rd of next year and an evidentiary hearing for June 17th. Kohberger says he is prepared to challenge the case on his own, but asked the court to appoint a lawyer to help him moving forward.
He is currently serving four consecutive life sentences with no possibility of parole.

On Aug. 12, the city of Surprise said it was suspending its ALPR technology after a routine audit "identified an anomaly in the use of the system."

- Police say a man who was caught on video damaging a photo safety camera in a Phoenix school zone has been arrested.
On Aug. 18 at about 10 a.m., Phoenix police say 20-year-old Brandon Ribadeneira intentionally damaged a camera near Cave Creek Road and Deer Valley Drive, causing over $47,000 in damages.
"Ribadeneira was driving over the posted speed limit, activating the Photo Safety Camera. He then pulled over, exited his vehicle, pushed over the Photo Safety Camera and struck it several times with a rock before leaving the area," police said in a news release. "A short time later, Ribadeneira returned in a truck, attached a strap to the device and attempted to drag it down the street, causing additional damage before the strap broke."

- A shooting early Thursday morning at a home near Verrado Way and McDowell Road left a man dead and his 17-year-old daughter wounded. Police say a suspect is in custody.
Just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 27, Buckeye police say officers responded to the Sienna Hills neighborhood near Verrado Way and McDowell Road for reports of shots fired.
Once at the scene, officers found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Inside the home, police say the officers found the girl's father, a man in his 30s, dead from gunshot wounds.
Police say the suspect, a man in his 20s, was detained at the scene. A weapon was also recovered.

- Tempe is the latest Valley city to say no to Flock, as the city announced on Aug. 26 that their Flock automated license plate reader system has been shut off. The city added that it will end its contract with Flock and the cameras are no longer collecting license-plate data. The city also will not seek another company to replace the Flock system.
The city says that while there has been no improper use of the Flock cameras in Tempe, other instances across Arizona involving the alleged misuse of data led to their decision to remove the technology.
"These cameras have helped our police officers do their jobs, and we don't discount that," Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said in a statement. "But the risk of misuse is too great. We have to be able to provide public safety in a way that maintains the trust of our community. For Tempe, that means taking these cameras down."

- Doctors are warning individuals taking GLP-1 medications to exercise caution during extreme heat exposure. While popular weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy are designed to suppress appetite, medical professionals warn they can also suppress the body's natural thirst signals. During high temperatures, this diminished craving for water can quickly lead to severe dehydration and heat exhaustion.
Mark Stewart, owner of Gameday Men's Health's Chandler location, takes the GLP-1 tirzepatide and shares that users must actively force themselves to drink water and electrolytes because the drug suppresses thirst. Dr. Shawn Stevenson, chief of foregut and bariatric surgery with Dignity Health Medical Group, explains that GLP-1 medications slow down the intestinal tract. This process causes fluids and solids to remain in the stomach longer, contributing to a constant feeling of fullness.
