- Much awaited GST bill is to be tabled in Rajya Sabha today.
The govt has cleared changes in the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill, dropping 1 per cent manufacturing tax and providing guarantee to compensate states for any revenue loss in the first five years of rollout of the proposed indirect tax regime.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, at a meeting with his state counterparts last week, promised to keep the incidence of tax low while safeguarding the revenue of the states.
Jaitley has been meeting leaders of Congress and other parties, to build a consensus on the passage of the long pending indirect tax reform bill in the Rajya Sabha.
GST Bill has already been passed by the lower house of Parliament and awaits the passage from the Upper House.

Officials claim that the company has started deliveries in states like West bengal, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and UP.
Looking at the huge demand, the company says it is satisfied with customers’ response so far after delivering the cheapest smartphones through lottery system.
In a statement the company that said after the delivery of 65,000 units, total delivery of Freedom 251 across the country will be 70,000.

According to reports, the Mamata Banerjee Cabinet in West Bengal today passed a proposal to change the name of the state either to Bangla or Bongo.
In English the state will be called as Bengal.
Though a special session of the state Assembly would be called soon to pass a proposal to set on course the name-changing process but final decision will be taken by the Centre and the Parliament.

- New passenger-friendly air ticket cancellation rules are effective from today.
As per the new guidelines of DGCA, now domestic airlines will have to pay a hefty sum in case of cancellation of flight or if a passenger is denied boarding at the last minute.
The new rules now mandate that the airline will have to pay upto Rs 10,000 to a passenger for cancelling his ticket or if there is a delay in the flight for more than two hours.
In case a passenger is not allowed to board the flight, then the airlines would have to up to Rs 20,000.
As per the old rules, the airlines paid fine up to only Rs 4,000 for cancellation of the flight as well as for denying boarding to a passenger.

- An era in digital technology came to an end today with Verizon Communications today saying it will acquire Yahoo's operating business for about $4.83 billion in cash.
The deal will see Verizon scoop up Yahoo's search, mail, content, and ad tech business.
According to a statement, the sale does not include Yahoo cash, shares in Alibaba Group Holdings, shares in Yahoo Japan, Yahoo convertible notes, certain minority investments, and Yahoo non-core patents.
Yahoo has a global user base of over one billion monthly active users, including 600 million monthly active mobile users, through search, communications and digital content products.
When the deal closes, Yahoo will change its name and become a publicly-traded investment company.

- Giving relief to Salman Khan in the poaching case, the Rajasthan High Court acquitted the actor today.
The hearing on both the cases was concluded in last week on May and the verdict was reserved by the Rajasthan High Court. The final verdict comes after 18 years of the incident took place.
Salman Khan was convicted in 2007 for hunting and killing two endangered Chinkara Deer and one Black Buck in Rajasthan in 1998 by a lower court. He has already spent time in Jodhpur jail twice for the same.
Salman Khan had gone in appeal to the High Court challenging the lower court's verdict that had handed him a 1 and 5 year jail term in the two separate poaching cases.
Salman Khan and seven other are accused of killing a black buck and a chinkara in the two separate incidents on September 26, 1988 and September 28, 1998.

- Talgo’s coaches have successfully completed their first run loaded to full capacity at a speed of 180 kmph between the Mathura to Palwal stretch today. The trial was done at speeds of 170 kmph and 180 kmpt between the two places. Vijay Kumar, Executive Director, Infrastructure at Railway Board told FE Online that with this high-speed trial complete, the Indian Railways will now test the emergency braking distance system of the train. That will go on till July 26, he said.
This is a big shot in the arm for Suresh Prabhu-led Indian Railways’ plans to run high-speed trains on existing Indian tracks. After these stage-two trials the Talgo coaches, that are currently being pulled by an Indian engine, will be tested on the Delhi to Mumbai Rajdhani route. The trials will begin some time in early August will be crucial for the fact that they will test Talgo’s claim of completing a train journey between the two metro cities in less than 12 hours.
