A portion of the 320,000 pounds of wood already been designated as firewood for distribution in Weaverville, North Carolina. Scout Troop 15 sorted the wood at the Weaverville United Methodist Church before community members picked up stacks to heat their homes.
By donating wood from the North Carolina Arboretum debris removal operations to residents and local communities, the wood can be used as firewood, artwork, furniture, and other community purposes.

The project is already sending logs to a staging area to be sorted based on potential use. The wood will then be distributed to residents and communities for firewood, furniture material, mulch and local artisans.
