- Mapping Rising Flood Risk Video 4: Identify Areas of Increased Flood Risk
- Date posted
- Description
- Welcome to the fourth video for the Mapping Rising Flood Risk series. These videos walk through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) instructions published by FEMA Region 3 to map the areas where flood risk is likely to rise first with climate change. These videos are meant to be used as a planning tool, not a regulatory requirement.
The first video gave an overview of the analysis and showed how to download the terrain and floodplain data. The second video showed how to add data to our map, align the coordinate systems, and add freeboard to the 1% annual chance flood hazard heights shown on the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM). In the third video, we created a series of 3D water and terrain surfaces for the study area. These are also known as triangulated irregular networks, or TINs. Please review these videos first.
In this final video, we'll identify the areas that would be flooded by the 1% annual chance flood in one, two, and three feet of freeboard.
