Villaraigosa is running for California Governor.
He broke with his party to support Proposition 36 in California, which increases penalties for repeated theft and drug crimes. Voters sided with Villaraigosa overwhelmingly.
He says the party is out of touch on trying to potentially close oil refineries, which would kill union jobs and increase prices at the gas pump for millions of Californians.

On this day, hundreds of volunteers showed up in Palmdale to knock on doors.
With more competitive districts than any other state, California voters will likely determine who controls the House.
The current Republican Speaker, Mike Johnson, is also in California this weekend. But, his events are closed to the media and he denied our interview request.
Whitesides tells me a potential Speaker Jeffries would "take the country forward, protect reproductive freedom, protect social security & protect our democracy."
