Kazungula Town Council has disclosed plans to undertake repair works on a stretch from Simoonga to Sekute palace on the famous Makunka road.
Recently, Republican President Hakainde Hichilema directed that a CDF allocation of over k3 Million be utilized towards improving feeder roads countrywide.
Kazungula Town Council Director Engineering Fortune Chileshe has told Diamond News that k2.5 Million has been set aside to grade and gravel the road with works expected to be complete in November.

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Leaf Zambia Limited has distanced itself from several tobacco growers who have been left stranded at its Baobab buying floors in Chipata City.
Responding to a press query from Diamond TV regarding concerns raised by the affected farmers, JTI Public Relations Manager Hilary Hazele clarified that only a few of the growers currently at the buying point are contracted with the company.
Mr. Hazele disclosed that only a small portion of the tobacco present, approximately 2,221 bales, or about 159,000 kilograms, belongs to JTI’s contracted farmers. He added that the company remains committed to purchasing this excess tobacco.
He further stated that the bulk of the tobacco at the site originated from non-contracted sources, including growers who were left unsupported by other sponsors and traders engaged in cross-border activity.

The Lusaka High Court has sentenced Ministry of Finance and National Planning Assistant Director Mildred Kasase to 10 years imprisonment, and her son, Madiba Zulu, to 3 years, in connection with the death of her husband, Alex Zulu.
In this matter Ms. Kasase and her son had initially pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder, contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The charge stemmed from the death of Mr. Zulu on 29th October 2023, in what was initially treated as a murder case.

Fuel shortage has hit Mazabuka District in Southern province a day after the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) announced a reduction in fuel prices for July 2025.
The price of petrol was lowered from K31.36 to K28.00 per litre, but motorists in Mazabuka are finding it difficult to benefit from the reduction due to limited supply.
Currently, only one filling station in the entire district has fuel, leaving many drivers stranded and expressing frustration over the disruption to daily activities and transportation.

The Non-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says it is committed to ensuring the national budget reflects the diverse needs of society particularly those of women and girls.
Speaking during a media engagement on the national budget in Lusaka, NGOCC Executive Director Anne Mbewe Anamela says the rise in gender-based violence requires the 2026 National Budget to allocate sufficient resources for the full implementation of the Anti-Gender-Based Violence Act.
She adds that the budget should fulfill Zambia’s commitment under the Abuja Declaration by allocating at least 15% of public expenditure to the health sector, with a focus on enhancing maternal health and recruiting essential staff such as midwives.

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has reduced fuel prices for the month of July 2025, following a stronger Kwacha and lower fuel import costs.
Last month, petrol was selling at 31.36 Kwacha, but it will now cost 28.00 Kwacha per litre. Diesel has been reduced from 25.12 Kwacha to K23.13 Kwacha, while kerosene drops from 24.79 Kwacha to 21.98 Kwacha per litre. The price of Jet A-1, used in aviation, has also been reduced from 27.08 Kwacha to 23.94 Kwacha.

Bus drivers operating on the Mufulira–Mokambo Road have raised concerns over delays in road construction, warning that the route may become completely impassable when the rainy season begins in three months.

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Charity Katanga, has begun serving her three-year sentence handed down on February 19, 2024, for possession of 10 Higer buses valued at over K26 million, which were found to be proceeds of crime.
Following her conviction and sentencing, Katanga was granted bail pending the outcome of her appeal.
Today, Monday, June 30, 2025, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court delivered its judgment on the appeal and upheld the decision of the lower court, which convicted and sentenced Katanga to three years' imprisonment.
The court found that Katanga failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove that the properties in question were legally acquired.
