- Germany and Russia's foreign ministers have met for the first time since before Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Johann Wadephul and Sergei Lavrov held brief talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The meeting comes amid sharply worsening relations between Berlin and Moscow, just weeks after Germany accused Russia of being behind an attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle airport.
Wadephul called on Russia to abandon what Germany described as its "dangerous path of escalation" towards Germany, Europe and NATO. So why did Berlin open a direct diplomatic channel with Moscow now, and could Germany's role in the Ukraine war be changing?

Nearly 300 millimetres of rain fell in some areas in less than 48 hours, overwhelming Bangkok's canals and drainage system. Residents have been forced to wade through deep floodwaters, while schools, businesses and transport have been disrupted.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt says the situation has stabilised, but more heavy rain is forecast and authorities are still trying to manage water flowing into the city from neighbouring provinces.
Journalist Tommy Walker reports from Bangkok on how residents are coping, whether the city is prepared for further rainfall, and how the flooding compares with Thailand's devastating 2011 floods.

- More than 1,400 people were killed and thousands remain missing after catastrophic floods devastated parts of Nepal. A month later, survivors are confronting another enormous challenge: rebuilding their lives.
DW travelled to some of the worst-hit communities in Nuwakot district, where entire neighborhoods were swept away. Mohammad Aslam spent 22 years working abroad to build a home for his family. It took less than a minute for the floods to destroy it.
Other survivors are still searching through the mud for belongings, documents and reminders of the lives they had before the disaster. Some have lost not only their homes, but members of their families.
We speak to journalist Shankar Dahal about the search for thousands of missing people, the challenges facing isolated communities and whether Nepal is prepared for future climate-related disasters.
