It was a week filled with competition, comradery, and joy for the team of nine Veterans. Founded in 1985, the National Veterans Golden Age Games serves Veterans ages 55 years and older. Through its “Fitness for Life” motto, the Golden Age Games offered sports competitions and health education sessions to demonstrate the value that sports, wellness, and fitness provide to assist Veterans with living an active and healthy lifestyle.

- Army Veteran and MLB legend Willie Mays is considered the "greatest to ever play." Among one of the greatest ever Hall of Fame careers, the "Say Hey Kid" hit 660 career home runs, won two NL MVP awards, 12 Gold Glove awards, and was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.
Mays died on June 18, 2024.
We honor his service.

Classes are open to VA-enrolled Veterans and a “plus one” if desired– this can be a partner, family member, caretaker or anyone involved in helping you prepare food.
Today's Sheet Pan Tilapia and Vegetable Medley makes for a simple yet nutrient-packed lunch or dinner. The recipe includes tilapia for lean protein, potatoes for a nutrient-dense carbohydrate and a colorful variety of non-starchy vegetables packed with fiber and micronutrients. It comes together with a delicious taste and minimal effort. Be sure to try this recipe on a busy weeknight for a balanced meal!

- The #VA Nutrition and Food Services Healthy Teaching Kitchen Program has put together over 200 healthy recipes that can be found in our Recipe Library, Cookbooks, and Cooking Videos. New recipes are always being added so check back often.
What do you do with all your garden-fresh vegetables? Make a summer soup. This soup is perfect for light lunches and dinners. This easy soup makes use of produce in season: zucchini, tomatoes, bell peppers. The great thing about soup is that you can change the ingredients to exactly what you want. For example, if you can adjust the thickness by adjusting the amount of broth and swap out for different vegetables and spices. Serve with a garnish of fresh parsley or and grated Parmesan cheese along with crusty Italian bread on the side. Enjoy!
