Der Europarat ist davon überzeugt, dass die Medien einen entscheidenden Beitrag dazu leisten können, ein Bewusstsein für Diskriminierung zu schaffen. Die Kampagne arbeitet mit Medienschaffenden und Journalistenschulen zusammen, um die Rolle der Medien in einem multikulturellen Europa zu verdeutlichen sowie deren Fähigkeit, die Förderung des Dialogs in einer Umgebung, in der Angehörige vieler verschiedener Ethnien und Religionen miteinander leben, positiv zu beeinflussen.

The Council of Europes Jeroen Schokkenbroek said the organisation was critical of the United States and Japan over their use of the death penalty . He added that ''dialogue was continuing'' with both countries towards ending the practice.

- The Parliamentary Assembly on 29 September elected Thorbjørn Jagland (Norway) Secretary General of the Organisation for a five-year term. In the first round of the election, Thorbjørn Jagland obtained 165 votes (an absolute majority) and Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz (Poland) 80 votes. There were 245 votes cast. Mr Jagland has been President of the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) since 2005 and Member of Parliament for Buskerud County since 1993. He was born on 5 November 1950 in Drammen, Norway. He is married to Hanne Grotjord. They have two children. Thorbjørn Jagland will be sworn in as Secretary General on 1 October 2009.

- The Conscience of Europe is a film intended for the general public. It describes the European Court of Human Rights and its working practices and activities.
The documentary lasts about 15 minutes and may thus be watched in the context of school curricula, for example as part of civics lessons, or by anyone who wishes to know more about the Court, which has monitored compliance with human-rights standards in Europe for the past 50 years.
In particular, the film presents specific examples of cases examined by the Court and considers its future prospects and the challenges facing it.
